Recharge Your Sex Drive & Reignite The Passion Between The Sheets

Are you looking to recharge your sex drive & reignite the passion between the sheets?

It’s the end of the day. You’re tired. Your partner nudges you or asks to rub your back and you know what they’re suggesting. They want to ignite some passion between the sheets. But, you’re not in the mood.

Over the past few years, I’ve studied women’s hormonal health through books, podcasts, and research. It’s become a topic I kind of geek out about because I think it’s truly important for every woman to understand their personal hormonal health.

I’m not an expert but through my learning, I have some simple recommendations on ways to recharge your sex drive, also known as your libido, and reignite the passion between the sheets and I’m here to share those with you.

passionReignite The Passion Tip #1: Check your birth control
Oral contraceptives are one medication that can decrease some women’s sex drives. Due to the synthetic hormones in hormonal birth controls your libido can be negatively impacted because the pills are increasing the production of the Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). This protein binds to testosterone and interrupts your body’s normal rhythm and way of using it throughout your body. When this happens you may see a lower sex drive. Now on the flip side, some women see great things from their oral contraceptives including lighter periods. The main question to ask yourself is – have I researched other options that could improve my overall health and my sex drive? I could talk about how your birth control may be impacting your health but that’s for another post! Right now, I’m here to tell you that there are non-hormonal birth control options including the Paragard IUD (I highly recommend it) that will not negatively affect your sex drive because it’s not producing synthetic hormones inside your body.

Reignite The Passion Tip #2: Eat high iron foods or take an iron supplement
There is research out there that tells us that low iron levels in women can cause a low sex drive and can also impact their ability to have an orgasm. How do you get more iron? Leafy green vegetables, beans, and dried apricots are three foods that have great levels of iron nutrients. Taking an iron supplement can also increase iron levels and it’s simple to add to your morning routine by taking your supplement with water a couple of hours after breakfast. I recommend visiting your local nutrition and wellness store to find a good quality iron supplement.

Reignite The Passion Tip #3: Get more sleep:
Research tells us that 1 out of 3 women don’t prioritize sex when they are tired. This means, when you start to prioritize sleep so you feel more well-rested you can improve your sex drive. Simple, right? Not for all of us! If you have little kids or a baby that is still up multiple times each night it’s hard to get those recommended 8 hours of sleep. Communicate with your partner when you’re tired and try to find a time that works better for you. Maybe morning sex is on the horizon.

Reignite The Passion Tip #4: Communicate your foreplay needs with your partner
If your partner is male, they are prepared to ignite the passion between the sheets much quicker than women. Women need more foreplay and sometimes men need to be reminded of that. You can tell them there’s science behind it! This is why it’s important to communicate your needs to your partner. Tell them what you like and what feels good. By opening up this line of communication your partner can better serve you to help improve your sex drive.

Reignite The Passion Tip #5: Increase your exercise routine
There are tons of benefits to maintaining a regular exercise regimen. One of them is that it helps maintain a healthy sex drive thanks to heightened endorphins, your feel good hormones. Exercise also helps manage stress and improve positive coping skills which in turn will also increase sex drive in women. During stressful seasons, this is important!

Again, I am not an expert or a professional. I am a Mom who enjoys learning about women’s hormonal health and is sharing these simple ways to improve your sex drive with you today in hopes that it heightens your relationship and ignites some passion during this stressful season.

If you are concerned about your sex drive please talk with your PCP, OBGYN, or holistic practitioner so that they can offer their professional assistance to help improve your sexual health.
