Five “Bingeable” Podcasts For The True Crime Junkie!

The winter is here and with it comes shorter days colder weather and lots of staying indoors.  I do not love the winter but I do love the productivity I have in my home when we’re stuck inside. I love nothing more than to get into a good podcast and get to the tedious chores I have put off all year.

I specifically love true crime podcasts and they are taking the world by storm right now. Because I am such a fan of these types of podcasts I have listened to quite a few. Some great, others not so great, and then there are lots that are just “cringey”. So, I decided to make a list of the top five binge-worthy podcasts you need to check out today! These podcasts are complete so there is no waiting for next week’s new episode to drop. You’re welcome!

My Top Five Binge-worthy Podcasts

1. Dr.Death
This podcast is a look into the investigation of Texas surgeon, Christopher Duntsch who went on a spree of injuring a number of patients and ultimately killing some who came into his path. Dr.Death is a story about a medical system that failed to protect these patients at every turn.

2. Serial
Serial is an investigative journalism podcast covering different legal cases that have been tried in the American justice system. But when Sarah Koenig gets involved everything can get turned upside down. This podcast has three amazing seasons just waiting to be explored, each one different than the other.

3. Dirty John
Dirty John is another investigative journalism podcast hosted by Christopher Goffard. This is a fascinating story about love, loss, and the extent people will go to miss red flag after red flag all in the name of love, even when it may cost you everything, even your child. Bravo TV has now picked up this podcast and is making it into a tv show. Binge it, then follow along on a screen on Sundays at 10pm.

4. In the Dark
In the Dark is a podcast by American Public Media. It is hosted and narrated by Madeleine Baran. This is an in-depth reportage of heartbreaking cases across America. Season one investigates the abduction of Jacob Wetterling that yielded no answers for 27 years. It is a peek into how law enforcement mishandled this child abduction for so long and what needs to change to prevent this from happening again. Season two covers the case of Curtis Flowers who has been tried six times for the same crime. He has maintained his innocence for 21 years and has won appeal after appeal but the prosecutor continues to try him again and again. This podcast covers questions like what does the evidence actually reveal and how can the justice system ignore the facts and allow the prosecutor to keep him on death row?

5. Escaping NXIVM
Escaping NXIVM is a CBC Investigative podcast series about the cult, the leader, Keith Raniere, and one woman’s journey to get out. It is fascinating to see how cults still exist today and how they go about brainwashing their followers and recruitment strategies in today’s world. Cults are not a thing of the past, and even with the impending legal trouble, NXVIM is still functioning today.

These are just a few podcasts that are totally binge-worthy and keep you wanting more. I want to warn you though that many of these have some language, and all of them have adult themes. So, listen with caution around your children. Put your earbuds in and get to getting some stuff done. These podcasts will keep you company the whole way through!

  1. I’ve listened to three of the five so far, and all were awesome. Have you listened to up and vanished yet? In my opinion, it’s fhe most riveting crime podcast!!! Also Crime Files is great! A new episode weekly that covers a different true crime. The narrator is Australian, so he’s easy on the ears 😉

    Thanks for sharing!!!!

    • Hey Stephanie!
I have listened to up and vanished but I really cannot get into season 2 and season 1 was enjoyable but Payne didn’t really help find the actual people involved so I just didnt it feel it was good enough to put in my top 5! Thanks for the other recommendations! I am going to listen!
