5 Budget-Friendly Ways to Help You Fall in Love With Your Home

My Typical Day-

11 AM: Gosh, I hate this old couch.

1:56 PM: Why haven’t we painted this room yet?

4:39 PM: I neeeed a new rug and this living room will be perfect.

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Sound familiar? Guess what – you’re not alone. In this Instagram/Pinterest world it’s real easy to get swept away in the discouragement of not having the “perfect” home.

While we all want a home that is perfect, it’s not always financially possible to make it that way. AND that is OK.

I’ve owned my house for ten years and I finally like it. I decided in December last year that this would be the year that I loved my home. That said, here are my top five tips to help you love your home.

#1: Focus on the things you like in the house. I love my hardwood floors, my little weird 1940’s arches in between rooms, and my fireplace. Maybe you like your floor plan or the way the sunlight fills the rooms. Take care to focus on the positives.

#2: Stop buying things to fill the spaces. This is huge. Only purchase items that you love.

#3: Shop your own house. I do this all of the time to freshen up spaces. Move that picture from the hall to the entryway. That faux plant from the fireplace mantle to the kitchen counter. You get the idea.

#4: Forage. I know it sounds silly but I LOVE the driftwood that is in my living room. It cost me ZERO dollars and it reminds me of a walk I took on the beach with my husband. home#5: If you do have some money to spend then always add texture to the room. This is really huge. And if you’re handy it doesn’t have to cost a ton. Pick a wall and add shiplap or board and batten. For $200 my husband and I changed up our dining area with board and batten and a gallon of paint- let me tell ya- it was worth every single penny.
