Let me just start by saying, I think I might be writing this for myself. To say it nicely {because it’s 2020 and we should say nice things about ourselves}, I’m politically… uh… passionate. I dated someone from the other side of the fence once and let me just say, the cringe is real. I couldn’t, I just couldn’t. The husband and I are happily politically aligned.
Despite my political passion, it’s important to me and you and above all, it’s important to our country, that we approach this election year with kindness.
Definitely feel free to believe what you want to believe.
Definitely vote for whoever it is that inspires you.
Definitely don’t feel like you need to keep your opinions to yourself.
But can we please be respectful and kind? Whatever happened to ‘agree to disagree’? I know it’s aggravating when someone is sharing their left or right agenda that conflicts with your own. I get it, opinions can be tough to hear especially if you don’t happen to agree with how someone else feels. But here’s the thing… having an opinion isn’t a problem.
Having an opinion is a good thing.
Opinions don’t just fall from the sky. They are socially and individually constructed to reflect a person’s moral compass and a philosophical approach to life. They are fascinating. Maybe it’s just the introvert in me, but what’s more interesting than insights into what makes a person tick? I may not always agree, but please, tell me your opinion! It doesn’t need to be a battle.
So, put your dukes down, friends. It’s an election year and things are going to get heated. But at the end of the day, the president is temporary, but you and I, we are friends for life.
