Basic Girl Gone Girly: Top 8 Drugstore Makeup Finds

Growing up, I was always a basic girl, some may even say tomboy. But as I have grown older and found my own style, I have also discovered a love for makeup. Yes, now I am as girly as can be, but I love it! It makes me feel confident, gives me a creative outlet and has become part of my daily self-care routine.

After my first baby, I remember barely making it out of the house for events with my hair washed and definitely not dry. My husband and girls looked so nice and put together and I trailed behind like a hot mess. I started to take more time for myself and it felt good. Even if I only have ten minutes to put on a bit of makeup and deodorant {a must!}, the simple addition to my daily routine really helps boost my confidence.

This mom may love her lip-gloss and eyeshadow, but I love a deal too! Ladies, I am here to share with you my top 8 favorite makeup finds from the drugstore. This is a comprehensive list to use if you are building a basic makeup set for the tween/teen in your life, restocking your own makeup drawer or are just looking to mix it up.

1. Primer

I put primer on after moisturizer and sunscreen before I apply my foundation. Primer is the base ladies, it helps everything else you put on after that stay there longer.

My favorite one from the drugstore is Maybelline Baby Skin. It is a light and very gentle primer, one you won’t even notice after applying.

2. Foundation

I like to apply a liquid foundation after my primer to even out my skin tone and hide any blemishes – thanks hormones and stress!

Wet n Wild Photofocus is a great foundation that is light on your skin but has full coverage. It also comes in many shades for different skin tones.

3. Powder

A powder is not a must, but it does help set the foundation and create a smooth palate for any other makeup you put on top, like blush.

I really like the L.A. Colors Mineral Pressed Powder. It’s new to the market but is very popular and has an exceptional price point. It goes on excellent with a brush and does not make you look chalky.

4. Blush

Now blush is where you can really add some life back into your cheeks.

I love Wet n Wild for their blushes. They have an impressive range of colors from matte to shimmer too. I really like the Coloricon blush line by Wet n Wild. Their Pearlescent Pink shade is just the right color for a year-round choice. It looks very bright in the package, calm down it will be fine. The blush goes on so soft with a sweet hint of pink.

5. Eye Shadow Primer – KEY!

I give eyeshadow primer the MIP {most important product} award for helping my eyeshadow stay put and for keeping the colors from all blending together to become a muddy looking mess.

I believe Milani Eyeshadow Primer is even better than its luxury counterparts. When you first see it, you think, “wow tiny bottle?!” But, my friends, only the tiniest amount is needed and the bottle is never-ending.

6. Eye Shadow Pallet

There are many famous luxury brands with very expensive eyeshadow pallets over the $50 and higher range. Ladies, you do not need to spend that much money to get a fantastic look.

I love what Wet n Wild has done with their pallets. They have some trios, duos and larger pallets that provide multiple looks and at a terrific price point. My favorites are, Comfort Zone, Not A Basic Peach, and Rose In the Air.

7. Mascara

When it comes to mascara, I want something that lengthens my eyelashes and does not flake off or smudge throughout the day. drugstore makeup

My winner for this category is the L’oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise in Blackest Black. This mascara is no joke. You put it on and it stays. I must wash it off at night with eye makeup remover to get it off. I love the look it gives my eyes and the fact that it stays all day.

8. Lipstick

Last, but certainly not least ladies, lips! I have found the liquid lipstick that lasts all day, through meals, the gym and even overnight too if you don’t wash your lips off with makeup remover.

Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink is the winner. This lipstick is in it for the long haul and has a pretty good shade range too.

Bonus Pick:

I always carry Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm SPF 20 in my purse, car, at work or whatever bag I am lugging around for the day. This is a super moisturizing lip balm with a hint of color to it. The fact that it has SPF in it is also a win. It’s a super-fast way to hydrate your lips, protect them and add a bit of color on the run.drugstore makeup

I value quality but also scoring some great deals mommas! All the brands and items listed can be found at your local drugstore, big box store {TARGET run anyone?}, or Amazon. These brands are often on sale or get marked down too.
