Meet Shelby, Raising her Family in her Hometown of Howell

Hello, my name is Shelby, I am a stay-at-home momma to my two daughters – Kylee {almost 3} and McKenzie, 3 months. I am married to my husband Luke for four years and have been together for nine years. We live in Howell with our three large dogs, two labs, and one wild German Shepherd. We were both born and raised in Howell and I love that we have settled down in our hometown to raise our family.

My husband and I met when he was living in Ann Arbor and shortly after dating, I moved in with him. We both knew that the city wasn’t for us and had a big pull to move out of Michigan. I have family that lives in Wyoming and we decided it was calling to move out west. We packed up everything we owned and made the long trip to Wyoming. At first, we were living with family on the east side of the state. After taking time to explore the beautiful state, we fell in love with Jackson Hole. We soon found that the area was very expensive to live in and settled about an hour away in a very small town, Driggs, Idaho. We found a rental, but it wasn’t ready for six weeks. So we made the crazy decision to tent camp until we could move in. That time was the best and most wild time in our lives. After about a year, the pull to go back home was getting stronger and stronger. We really loved the area, but we missed family and friends more than we ever thought we would. So once again, we packed up to make the trip back home. After about six months back in our hometown, we bought our house and settled down.

My daughters are truly the best thing that has ever happened to me and I have loved being a stay-at-home mom. It has been the best and hardest job I have ever had. My daughter Kylee is my spunky, sassy smart girl. She is a tomboy and loves dirt, bugs, and frogs more than anything, but is also obsessed with wearing dresses. My daughter McKenzie {Kenzie}  is the best baby. We are so blessed with her and just enjoying everything new that comes with her. Kylee loves Kenzie so much, their bond is the best thing I have ever seen.

My pregnancy with both girls was very changeling as I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which is a severe case of morning sickness, but much worse.

The first time around wasn’t as bad. I was very sick, but the medication helped and I pushed through. My last pregnancy was a true nightmare. I was hospitalized three times and on a crazy amount of medications that really didn’t work. As much as my pregnancies were really challenging, I am forever thankful to have made it through and have my beautiful girls.

I love being outdoors and enjoy camping, fishing, boating, and pretty much anything outside other than hiking. I have an obsession with getting my hair done {mostly to cover up my gray hair at 29 years old} and love getting pedicures when I can find the time. Pretty much any craft out there I have tried. I like to try new crafts, but still waiting to find one that I have a true passion for. I love taking pictures of my girls and really enjoy finding good deals on cute clothes. I have been gluten-free for over 10 years and was diagnosed with Celiac disease. My sweet tooth is really bad and I love anything sugary. I am always down for a good glass of wine or hard cider. At the end of the day, I really just love sitting down and watching a movie or a tv show. The main part of my life is really watching my toddler learning and exploring this world, making it her own, and soaking up all the snuggles of my last baby.

I am very excited to be part of the Mid Michigan Moms team, and to see where writing and this opportunity takes me.
