Meet Sarah Palmer, Crafty Mama + Postpartum Depression Warrior

Hi! I’m Sarah Palmer. I live in Grand Blanc with my husband Chris, our independent, already opinionated but sweet daughter Lily, Hannah our rescue boxer doggy, our three rescue cats {Tigerlily, Chloe, and Mira} and our three fish {Snap, Crackle, and Pop}.

My husband and I started dating in 2011 and were friends a couple years prior to dating. There was and is still something about him that just makes my heart go wild. He is my rock, my best friend and while we each have our own strong opinions about almost everything, we know that there isn’t a better place to be than with each other. We lived in Swartz Creek until we bought a house in Grand Blanc in 2014. In 2015 we got engaged as the sun set over Higgins Lake. We were married in 2016 on a very hot but wonderful July day.

Parenthood Begins
Our daughter was born in 2017. After having placenta previa, and bleeding out at the start of the pregnancy, along with multiple kidney stones the remainder of the pregnancy, I was very ready to give birth.

I thought the worry, depression, and severe anxiety I had felt through the entire pregnancy would go away. What I was not ready for was the wave of PostPartum Depression that hit me and knocked me down for about two years after Lily was born.

In the days to come, I plan on writing more about this. It was not only one of the darkest moments of my life, but who I became during those moments is far greater than the storm I endured. Women go through this, there shouldn’t be a stigma related to it.

The Palmers in the UP

{Wo}man plans, and God laughs
I had never, EVER thought that I was going to be a stay at home mom. But it happened.  Shortly after our daughter, who was at the time around 18 months old, got sick yet again, and landed in the hospital. I was done. I started to freak out. I liked working. I have never been a domestic extraordinaire. I hate to cook, do laundry, and have a terrible time shutting any cupboard doors. I am not a naturally cuddly person, I have a hard time expressing the more “mushy” emotions. I decided I needed mom friends. I needed other people around me who understood what it was like. So, I joined MOPS in September 2018. It was something that changed my entire world. I found mom friends, I found people with whom I could relate to. The unexpected twist was that my relationship with God was ignited. Things started to fall into place after. I can’t say that everything is perfect. But, for all the plans that I had surrounding my job and motherhood, I can say that finding that relationship with God was something wonderful. It was all a part of His plan and not mine.

Things that make me, ME
I have to say, that I am busier now than I ever was while I was working. Being a mom is a full-time job, itself.

MY “MINNIE ME”

I also am a student at the University of Michigan-Flint where I’m majoring in Sociology and minoring in Communications. I am the current MOPS of Faith Lutheran Coordinator and enjoy it so much. I am active within my church, and love being able to help where needed. I love to do crafts and am a paper crafter. I enjoy using my Cricut {if you don’t know what that is, my friend, you will find out as I will probably talk about it}. I also enjoy making faux flower arrangements, decorating for holidays, making wreaths, and finding new things to do on Pinterest. I am in the works of starting an event decoration business with my friend. More on that to come later. You will also see me be a little over the top for the Fourth of July. It is my FAVORITE holiday. I decorate red, white, and blue from May- September every year without fail. Summer is my favorite season, and I wish it could be summer year-round!

I can’t wait to get to you better as I talk about my journey through motherhood! See you then!
