Meet Magann: Mom of Four + Self-Care Advocate

Hello Mid-Michigan! My name is Magann, one of the newest MMM contributors.

I married Nathan {Nate} in 2011. We are raising our 3 boys and a little girl in the Village of Gaines. I wear many hats throughout the week. I am a board member of our school PTO, Active in our church, Leader in our church’s youth program, soccer mom, member to several book clubs and playgroups. I love being busy!

I grew up in the Mid-Michigan area, attending the Brandon and Grand Blanc School Districts. I graduated from Grand Blanc High in 2008. I received my Associate’s degree from MOTT while working four jobs to avoid student loans and provide for myself.

I met my husband Nate while visiting a family member and touring her college out west. After coming home I wrote to him for two years while he served a mission for our church. Two days after our wedding festivities we moved out west to Utah for his new job that he got two days before we got married. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Visual Communication shortly after having my oldest son. We moved back to the Grand Blanc area in 2015 and I have been a stay at home mom since. And I LOVE IT!

I have four littles in my home, ages 8, 5, 3, and 1. Our home is always bursting with energy, music and well, et’s be honest, noise. I am pretty sure the neighbors think we are crazy at this point. We love to play in the yard, at the lake, or explore new parks and trails. With my husband and I both hailing from big families, we also have just under a dozen nephews and nieces living around the country from age 12 on down to newborn. We love to travel and this makes a great excuse to get out and see things.

I am a big advocate of self-care for parents. As a mother who has never spent a lot of time away from her children, it’s important to find time to recharge. Outside my home, this is found in girls’ nights, book club, and mommy chat dates aka playgroup. At home it’s the occasion facial, painting my nails, reading a book, drinking a warm cup of hot chocolate, reading scriptures, and journaling.

A Few of my Favorites:

  • Projects! Sewing, photography, coloring, painting, woodworking, and scrap-booking
  • Planning events, trips, and activities. I even love packing for trips or to move
  • Being around friends and family
  • To be outside and near the water with the smell of campfire nearby

I started a social media handle called SUNRISE TO CAMPFIRES because my husband likes to tease me for binge reading and then talking to him about the numerous books I read. Over time this became a way to review and share events, activities, and anything family-related. Why did I choose the name Sunrise to Campfires? I love watching the sun come up in the mourning and ending the day with a campfire. I can’t wait to connect with you!
