Meet Kristie, A Grand Blanc Mom!

Hello, Everyone! I’m Kristie! Eighteen months ago I became a stay-at-home mom when my daughter, Evelyn, was born. Most days still feel like a whirlwind, even though bedtime seems like light years away! The days are long but the years are short. Is that how the saying goes?

Kristie and Evelyn

My husband, Stan, and I met in college at Michigan State (Go Green!!). We got married in August 2014 and lived in a tiny apartment in Clarkston. When we found out I was pregnant shortly after we were married, we bought our house in Grand Blanc. We wanted to get out of the Southeast Michigan hustle and absolutely love the community here.

I grew up in Lansing, while my husband is from Dearborn, so we don’t have any previous ties to the area. We adore Michigan, though, and have no plans of ever leaving! My family loves doing anything that involves the outdoors. We love to camp, ski, and in the summer we could hang out on the beaches of Lake Michigan all day.

In my former life, I was a Nutrition Educator. I worked mainly in elementary schools in Oakland County teaching little ones all about nutrition and physical activity. I love all things food: cooking, baking, and especially eating! Providing a healthy lifestyle for my family is important to me, but I do have the biggest sweet tooth! Chocolate is probably my favorite food. Everything in moderation, right?!

When I’m not chasing my daughter around or trying to keep her from eating the cat food (again), I spend most of my time working on my blog, Life As Mama Bear. I discovered blogging during the early days of motherhood and it has been such a blessing.

I love connecting with other moms who are going through similar things. This motherhood gig is hard work and best not to be done alone!

I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Founding Team of Genesee County Moms Blog. I am just so excited for the moms of Genesee County (including me!) and the surrounding areas to have access to such a fabulous local resource!

Still being semi-new to the area, we have done a lot of exploring the last year. These are some of our favorite Genesee County spots:

For-Mar Nature Preserve in Burton- We love attending the various programs and events they offer year round. And if you just want to just get outside and walk the beautiful trails, this is the perfect place! They also have a fun treehouse and it’s one of our favorite places to visit.

Genesee County Libraries – We often visit the library in Grand Blanc when we just need to get out of the house! And I’m sure we’ll be there a lot more during these cold months. All of the county libraries offer storytime and other programs for kids and the best part is, it’s free!

Rust Park in Grand Blanc – This is our favorite Grand Blanc park. There is a nice path to walk and a great playground! We sometimes pack our lunch and have a picnic under the pavilion.

Lake Callis Splash Pad in Davison- This was our go-to spot in the summer time. This is such a nice splash park and they have an area with smaller fountains for the little ones. Plus, the beach is right there, too, so it’s a full day of fun!

Spicer Orchards in Fenton – During the fall, we probably made at least 4 trips here! There is so much to do for the little ones. I wanted to mention it because they also have a holiday event that includes a train ride and a visit to Santa’s Sleigh Workshop. We will definitely be going!
