Meet Christi, a Davisburg Mom who Kicked Diet Culture Out of Her Life

Hi, I’m Christi! I will bet you a plate of Union/Woodshop Mac and Cheese that you’ve known the struggles of mom life and body image battles, HARDCORE.

My boys, Tommy and Jack are two and four and are the loves and, simultaneously, the tenderness of my life. My husband is incredibly supportive and brings me home treats from Alex’s {that new Gourmet Market on the corner of White Lake Rd and Andersonville} when he knows I’ve had a bad day, or when he needs a get out of jail free card. The carrot cake is the BOMB and always puts a smile on my face.

I grew up in the Holly/Davisburg area and now live in Davisburg. I’m a Certified Nutrition Coach who specializes in a non-diet approach to health.

My hardcore, lie-awake-in bed-at-night, passion is in helping women become their truest most authentic and unapologetic selves. While my writing style is incredibly relatable and raw in the Motherhood and body image category, I am one of the most vulnerable motivators out there. Not because I know it all, but because I walk through my struggles with feelings of fear, inadequacy, and embarrassment, then turn around and share the real, raw and uncut stories with you.

I was a high school and collegiate athlete and a former bodybuilder. My unrefined story came from my perfectionist and over-achieving need to try and be somebody in this world. All of a sudden, I HAD to keep this body at all costs, even if it meant looking “healthy” on the outside while forcing sickness on the inside.

I developed an extremely unhealthy relationship with food and my body just to look a certain way. I experienced:

  • body dysmorphia
  • bulimia
  • intense binge eating
  • severe food restriction
  • frequent dieting
  • chronic weight fluctuations
  • rigid rules around food
  • fear going into restaurants or parties
  • fear of certain foods {orthorexia}
  • laxative abuse
  • using exercise as a form of control
  • eating by the clock instead of from my body signals
  • massive guilt and shame around food

When I finally went ALL IN on healing my relationship with food, I knew that there was more to life than strenuously shaping this container I was living in. I began living my best, healthiest, most energetic life 30 lbs up.

That’s why I’m here right now. Because now, more than ever, we need to start taking care of ourselves through self-care, not self-control. This is what I teach and I’m proud to share my vulnerable story to help others.

I believe that the missing piece to the health puzzle is fixing your relationship with food first before you start adding in structured nutrition.

Because your body shape, Lulu leggings pant size, and the number on your scale are the LEAST interesting things about you, Mama.
