Tips To Cleanse Your Mind and Body During the Pandemic

Let’s face it, the last seven months have been mentally exhausting for most of us. I’ve felt the need to cleanse! Whether it’s been the constant sanitizing of everything around us, the worry of finding childcare, the sadness of not seeing a loved one, the devastation of contracting the illness, or losing someone because of it. All the worry of the unknown can take a toll on our mental health and affect our physical health as well.

Try these steps below to somewhat “cleanse” your body and mind from the stress of the last seven months – whether it’s been eating or drinking too much, social media stress, anxiety, and so on. I am, by no means, a professional when it comes to diet but I have tried all of these steps and am speaking from experience. These two tips may be small, but they are mighty. If you’re seeking relief, I hope they make a difference in your life, as they’ve done in mine.

Cleanse Tip #1: Break-Up with Social Media—Even for a little while
The first thing I’ve *tried* doing is pausing social media. This is the number one thing that I believe causes stress and anxiety in many of us. If we take a break from the somber news we might feel a bit better and start feeling mentally refreshed. This can be a challenge since most of us are unknowingly obsessed with wanting to know what’s going on every second. I, for one, like to keep up with the news to educate myself on what’s going on in the world. But, I definitely would benefit from taking pauses here and there to reset.

  • Pause Facebook, Instagram, and any other platform for at least a day to start.
  • You can pause one at a time, or all, and see how you feel after the first day. You probably feel less worried and have a more positive outlook, I bet.
  • In a few days, pause them again, this time for a couple of days, and see how you feel.

Make this a repetitive action in your life if you can. We all need a break from the negativity surrounding us on social media. The same goes for the news on television. When you get the urge to change it to a news station, stop yourself and turn on a documentary or just anything that’s non-political. Fight the urge. Heck, put on Bluey or Puppy Dog Pals, even if the kids aren’t around to watch too. Sometimes it’s easier said than done, I understand that. But trust me, it’ll be a breath of fresh air when you have even the slightest break from the somewhat depressing and negative news we see and hear every day.

Cleanse Tip #2: Eat and Drink Your Way to Feeling 100%
In order to start feeling better about the way we’ve been over drinking or eating is to not diet, but to start eating and drinking gradually just a bit better. It may sound simple but for many but it’s hard to change a bad habit like this. The simplest things I’ve found are super easy you just have to stick with it as much as possible and you’ll start noticing a difference.

  • The first thing I’ve been doing in the morning is mixing lemon juice and apple cider vinegar with warm water. Drink it like a tea in place of your coffee or before your coffee.
The lemon and apple cider are not only great for cleansing of the liver but also aid in digestion, weight loss, and other benefits.
  • Simple things you can do to help your gut feel rejuvenated are eating out less, smaller portions, more water, limiting sugars and carbs.
Eating out less will help your bank account as well. I once went back a few months and tracked how much we spent on fast food or eating out and the amount was astonishing.
We now only eat out about twice a month and only when needed during the week ie. coffee fix for mom and donut fix for the kids

You will notice a change in your mind and body by doing all or some of these steps, do what works best for you and try your hardest to hold yourself accountable, your sanity and your gut {and/or liver} will thank you for it!
