My favorite local fall event: Pumpkinfest in South Lyon, MI

My favorite time of the year is fall in Michigan! The leaves change, bonfires, apple picking, cider and all things pumpkin. My little town South Lyon, MI also does their biggest event of the year, which is Pumpkinfest.

Downtown is closed down to traffic and Pumpkinfest gets set up. The event runs September 28-30 this year. My family loves seeing the pyramid of hay bales topped with pumpkins in the middle of town. It is huge! The pyramid goes up to the stoplight in the middle of downtown. We have years of pictures taken at this

There is a Pumpkinfest parade at 10am on Saturday through downtown. My daughter has been in the parade with girl scouts or dance the past 4 years. I used to be in the parade when I was a child because I grew up in South Lyon also.

Area businesses and groups set up scarecrows through town on the light poles leading up to the event. My family always gets excited when we start to see them in town because we know Pumpkinfest is coming. And of course, I take more pictures of my kiddo with the scarecrows!

Pumpkinfest is an incredibly fun, family-friendly event! There is quite a bit to entertain the kiddos. Bounce houses, games with prizes, art and free activities, Ultimate Air Dogs, pumpkin carving by the Lord of the Gourd, pottery painting at Glazy Days, magic show in the theater, craft show at Bartlett elementary school near downtown, performances on stage where my daughter has danced for the last two years, karaoke on stage for kids, and so much more! We look forward to Pumpkinfest every year.

Air Dogs. Trained pups jumping long distances into a pool. Fun for hot early fall weather!

There is no charge for parking. The bounce houses, games and craft show have a fee. Games are normally $1 each. We did the pottery painting at Glazy Days last year for $5, it was a cute little pumpkin of course! The nice thing about the games is they are all local nonprofits, churches, girl scout troops, boys out troops etc. The money spent on games actually benefits these local nonprofit groups.

Pumpkinfest is all about community. We see people we know downtown and invite friends to come with us because it is so much fun! I hope you will come to check out my favorite event in my little town!
