A Mid-Michigan Mom’s Guide to May

April showers bring May flowers!  As the weather gets warmer and the school calendar winds down, let us help you fill your days to keep busy!  Check out some awesome things happening around Mid-Michigan this month!

May 1 – May 5

May 1st – There is nothing we love more than our Farmers Market!  Join us today as the Outdoor Pavilion Vendors make they summer debut at the Davison Farmers Market!  Fresh fruits and veggies galore!  Not to mention shopping inside!  Come on out and support our local farmers! 

May 3rd – Celebrate Stars Wars Day at the Fenton-Winegarden branch of the Genesee District Library today from 4:30pm until 5:30pm for Star Wars Challenge.  Dress as your favorite character, solve puzzles, make crafts, get prizes.  Geared towards children ages 9 and up.  We’ll see there!

May 3rd – We love Saginaw Children’s Zoo!  What better time to experience it then today, from 3pm until 7pm for FREEGreat Start Saginaw is hosting Great Start Day at the Zoo!  Come on out with your child(ren) and do some exploring around this quaint little zoo that has so much to offer!  We’ll see you there!

May 4th – Applewood Estates officially opens this week!  Kick off the season today from 11;30am until 12pm with Storytime!  This is a family friendly event offered courtesy of the Ruth Mott Foundation for FREE!  Today’s story is all about birds!  After hearing “Have You Heard the Nesting Bird?”, we will go on a bird walk to see all the different birds on the grounds of the Estate.  We hope to see you there!

May 4th – Listen up!  It’s that time of year again!  Food Truck Friday’s are back in town!  Join us tonight from 5pm until 9pm at Grand Blanc High School for First Friday Food Truck Festival!  There will be lots of different food trucks to choose from, an Expo Shopping area, a Kids Zone, music and more!  We will be there with bells on and hope to see you, too!

May 5th – Are you looking for a a race today?  Head to Flushing for the 4th annual “Wake the Bear, Feed the Kids” event!  This is a fundraising event to help feed hungry kids in our community!  You don’t have to be a runner to participate.  Be sure to check out this event page for more information on how to register and get involved!

May 5th – It’s our favorite time of the month!  The first Saturday means we’ll meet you at Home Depot for the FREE Kids Workshop!  From 9am until 12pm, your child(ren) will have an opportunity to decorate a Windmill Planter!  Just in time for Mother’s Day!  Be sure to register online to ensure that your local store has enough supplies on hand.  We look forward to seeing you out and about!

May 5th – Head to Downtown Owosso this morning opening day of the Owosso Farmers Market!  There will be lots of returning vendors, as well as many new vendors, including a dessert food truck!  We’ll meet you at the Market!

May 5th – Are you on the East side of our community?  We’ve got your Farmers Market covered, too!  Head to the Historic Courthouse Square in Downtown Lapeer this morning to kick-off a new season at the Market!

May 5th – Are you a new or expecting mama?  And by new or expecting, it doesn’t have to be your first!  If you answered yes, join our Sister Site over at Detroit Moms Blog today from 10am until 1pm for their annual Bloom event at Noah’s in Auburn Hills!  This is an event designed for new and expecting moms to give you an opportunity to connect with local experts and businesses in our area to help you through this journey called Motherhood.  Be sure to check out event details and if you are interested, purchase your tickets here!  We’ll see you there!

May 5th – Head to Forest Township Library today for the Galactic Goo event!  Starting at 12pm, you will have the opportunity to learn about chemistry, matter and molecules and will take home your own bag of…GOO!  Geared towards kids ages 6 – 12, we hope to see you there!

May 5th – Let the Force be with you and join us today for Galactic Day at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo!  The first 100 children, 12 and under, dressed in a Star Wars costume will receive a special gift!  There will be crafts, games, photo opportunities and more!  We are so excited for this event and hope to see you out today!

May 5th – Mother’s Day is right around the corner!  Head to your nearest Michael’s Store today from 1pm until 3pm for a Mother’s Day Box MAKEbreak event!  Mom is sure to love this sweet and sentimental gift that is made just for her!  You bring the box and all other supplies and decorations are supplied!  We’ll see you there!

May 5th – Cops & Robbers in Flushing has invited us to “Meet the Paddy Wagon” today from 2pm until 10pm.  Stop on out, get some delicious ice cream, shop the gift shop and see what they’ve been up to!  The Paddy Wagon is a new project underway at Cops & Robbers to bring ice cream to the masses!  It will allow this local ice cream shop to head out to schools and get more involved in other community events.  Stop out and get some ice cream and see what it is all about!  We’ll definitely see you there!

May 6 – May 12

May 6th – Calling all Grandma’s and Grandpa’s!  Round up your grandkids and head to the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum in Saginaw today from 12pm until 5pm for FREE admission!  This is a day dedicated just to you, Grandma and Grandpa – Grandparents Play Free!  We’ll see you there!

May 7th – Join us at the Davison Library this morning from 9:30am until 10:30am for Storytime with Miss Marcia!  The love of reading is learned and there is no better place than our local library!  Miss Marcia will read and sing and you and your kids can join in!

May 7th – Held at the Frankenmuth Farmers Market, join us for “Cooking with Kids:  Top Chef” tonight at 6pm.  MyPlate will be introduced with a focus on the food groups.  Children, ages 8 – 10, will have an opportunity to make their own healthy recipe.  Cost is $10.  Space is limited so be sure to register!  We’ll see you there!

May 8th – Certified yoga instructor, Robyn will be onhand at the Mt. Morris Library tonight from 6pm until 7pm for Chair Yoga.  This is a gentle way to do yoga stretches for anyone who has injuries or is unable to get down on the floor.  We’ll see you there!

May 9th – Head to the Goodrich Library tonight from 5:30pm until 6:30pm for Yoga with Katrina.  Class size is limited, so be sure to register!  We’ll see you on the mat!

May 9th – Let your German roots shine through in the kitchen as you are transformed into a German baker!  You will be taught the proper pretzel-rolling methods and then you’ll be turned loose to match the technique.  Come back to pick up your creation and enjoy all your hard work!  Cost is $5.49 and pre-registration is required.  We’ll see you in the kitchen!

May 10th – Head to Frankenmuth tonight for Frankenmuth Funtown Chowdown Food Truck Festival (if that isn’t a mouthful)!  From 3pm until 9pm tonight inside River Place Shops, you will have a chance to treat yourself and your family to some amazing food, drink and FUN!  There will be 20 trucks, lots of tents for seating and designated parking areas!  We hope to see you out as we support our local communities!

May 11th – Join us at the Metamora Library this morning from 9:30am until 10:30 for Story time!  Geared towards ages 0 – 5, be sure to call and register ahead of time!  We’ll see you there!

May 11th – What better way to spend your Friday morning from 10am until 11am than at the Mt. Morris Library for Storytime with Miss Sandy!  Stories, songs and more!  We’ll see you there!

May 12th – Looking for a way to support Swartz Creek High School?  Come on down this morning at 8am for Swartz Creek Color Run 2018!  This Color Run will help Student Council implement new security and safety devices!  We hope to see you there!

May 12th – Join us for an afternoon of fun at the Corner Cellar in Millington today from 11am until 4pm for our Sip ‘n Shop!  There will be shopping, $3 mimosas, and more!  We’ll see you there!

May 12th – Head out to the Davison Farmers Market today from 2pm until 4pm for a Mother’s Day Event!  There will be a FREE kids activity (they get to plant a flower for mom or grandma to take home), there will shopping inside and fresh produce OUTSIDE!  This is always a Saturday favorite in our home.  We hope to see you there!

May 13 – May 19

May 13th – HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!  Join us today for Mother’s Day at the Zoo from 9am until 5pm.  Potter Park Zoo in Lansing is gifting mom’s FREE admission today.  The animals are out and ready for us to visit!  We’ll see you there!

May 13th – Join us today from 11am until 5pm for Mother’s Day at Applewood!  Treat mom to a special day by strolling through the first floor of the Estates and the beautiful gardens.  There will be a vase decorating activity and a scavenger hunt for the kids.  The best part?  Today is FREE!  We hope to see you there!

May 13th – Reservations are recommend for this Mother’s Day Brunch at O Town Cafe’ in Owosso today at starting at 11am.  Don’t delay! Treat mom to a brunch she’ll remember!

May 13th – Treat mom to a relaxing afternoon with a Mother’s Day Tea at the Farm at Westwind Farm in Swartz Creek today from 2pm until 4pm.  There will be a light luncheon with tea, all made in Michigan.  Weather permitting, there will be a tour of the re-established flour mill.  Call for reservations.

May 14th – You can never learn the love of reading too early!  Bring your babes, ages 0 – 24 months in to the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library today from 10am until 11am for Baby Steps!  A program geared towards teaching your toddler with rhythm, rhyme, toys, music and books!  We’ll see you there!

May 15th – Food Truck and Vendors OH MY!  You read that right.  It’s Tuesday and we’ll be at McCurdy Park in Corunna tonight from 5pm until 8pm for some delicious local food and fun!  A vendor market is being added this year to add a fun shopping experience, too!  We hope to see you there!

May 16th – Head to Marguerite deAngeli Library in Lapeer today from 10am until 11:30am for Family Playgroup!  This is a FREE family event for children ages 0 – 5.  Learn through song, play, friendship and crafts.  Snack and social time to follow.  Call to register in order to secure your spot.  We’ll meet you there!

May 16th – Join us today from 10:30am until 11:30am for Storytime with Miss Marcia at the Flushing Library.  Stories, song and more are sure to make this morning great!  We’ll see you there!

May 17th – We are lucky to have the Davison Farmers Market in our area!  Join us today from 3pm until 4pm for a FREE Adult Craft Class – Quilling a Heart!  This is sure to be a fun afternoon, not to mention shopping the Market when you’re done!  We’ll see you there!

May 17th – Join us tonight at Midland Center for the Arts from 5pm until 7pm for a GIRLS ONLY! STEM NIGHT.  Professional women from within the community will be onsite to share personal stories of events that inspired them to pursue stem-based careers.  Cost is $5 per girl (adults are free).  Geared towards GIRLS ages 10 and up, however, under 12, must be accompanied by an adult.

May 18th – Join us today for Family Yoga at Applewood!  From 12pm until 12:30pm, join us in the lower gardens for FREE family yoga.  Mindfulness May will have instructors from the Crim Fitness Foundation, too!  Mats are available and no experience is necessary.  We’ll see you there!

May 18th – Head over to Fenton tonight from 4pm until 9pm for their Spring Fling!  The downtown area will feature over 25 businesses to shop, get giveaways, samples, specials and more!  Start at The State Bank and be one of the first 500 customers to receive a complimentary gift bag!  We’ll see you on the town!

May 18th – We’ve got your Friday night covered!  Head down to Clarkston tonight from 4:30pm until 9pm for a Food Truck Rally!  Unique eats, live music, kids entertainment and more!  This is sure to be a Friday night favorite in the area!  We’ll see you there!

May 19th – It’s one of our favorite day’s of the year!  Vintage in the Village is back at Crossroads Village!  Join us today from 10am until 4pm for the unique spring market located inside Mill Street Warehouse.  There will be shopping, food and FUN!  Admission is $5.  We’ll see you there!

May 19th – Today is going to be a great day!  Fairy Day in Downtown Holly returns!  Today from 11am until 3pm, you will be able to participate in countless fairy events!  You are encouraged to wear a costume and will “travel” collecting fairy treasures including a tiara, wings, pixie dust, crafts and more!  There will sidewalk vendors and sales and specials throughout the downtown shops.  We hope to see you there!

May 19th – Join us today from 1pm until 2:30pm at Robert Williams Nature & Historical Learning Center in Davison for Letterboxing.  Learn the art of letterboxing, art, hiking and treasure hunting!  Each participant will make their own stamp.  Cost is $8 per person.  Materials are provided.  We’ll see you there!

May 19th – Head down to the Waterford Recreation Center tonight from 6pm until 8pm for a Family Dance Party!  There is sure to be fun and plenty of dancing.  There will be refreshments provided and you’ll go home with a profession family photo to remember the event.  Be sure to register to secure your spots.  We’ll meet you on the dance floor!

May 20 – May 26

May 20th – It’s opening day at the Grand Blanc Farmers Market!  Join us from 10am until 3pm and browse along with us farm fresh produce, yummy food and local, handmade crafts!  There will be a bounce house, live music and more!  We hope to see you there!

May 20th – Gather your girlfriends and meet us at The Pines of Dow Gardens today from 1pm until 3pm for Spring Tea!  This is a party all about hats, so be sure to wear your favorite as they discuss pieces from Grace Dow‘s collection.  Cost is $25 and this event is not recommended for children under the age of 10.  Be sure to register ahead of time.  We’ll see you on the grounds of Dow Gardens!

May 21st – Head to the Montrose-Jennings Library today from 10:30am until 11:30am for Storytime with Miss Sandy!  She will read to your children, there will be songs and more!  We hope to see you there!

May 22nd – Meet us at the Beecher-Vera B. Rison Library today from 6pm until 7pm for Kids’ Craft Club!  Geared towards kids ages 5 – 12, let them show their artistic side using the supplies on hand from the library craft cart!  We’ll see you and your creative kids there!

May 23rd – Join yoga instructor Katrina at the Goodrich Library tonight from 6:30pm until 7:30pm for Yoga.  Be sure to register for a spot on the mat and come out and get your zen on.  We’ll see you there!

May 25th – Drop in at Dow Gardens today at 10am for Storytime in the Children’s Garden!  Books will be read and there will be a short activity to follow.  All ages are welcome!  We hope to see you there!

May 25th – Head to Frankenmuth tonight from 6pm until 9pm for Friday Fun Nights!  Main Street comes alive with music, street performers and more!  There will be face painting, balloon twisting and magicians.  Meet us on the street for the fun, FREE, family event!

May 27 – May 31

May 28th – Join us today at Atherton High School for the City of Burton Memorial Day 5k Run & Walk.  From 9am until 1pm, you will have the chance to join in this 5k to commemorate the men and women who died while in military service, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle.  Be sure to register and meet us on the trail!

May 29th – Tonight brings us the May Full Moon Hike!  Join us in Davison from 8pm until 9:30pm for legends and superstitions as we venture into the woods by the light of the moon!  Listen for creatures of the night and hunt for signs of animals about.  End the night with us as we gather round a campfire with s’mores and stories!  We’ll see you there!

May 31st – Join us at Marguerite deAngeli Library in Lapeer tonight from 5:30pm until 7:30pm for Movie Night!  This is a FREE event!  Jumanji – Welcome to the Jungle will be shown.  Popcorn will be served.  All ages are welcome.  Be sure to call to register for this event!  We’ll see you there!
