It is February and LOVE is in the air! And so are a whole bunch of awesome events happening in and around Mid-Michigan that we cannot wait to share with you! Grab your calendars and start planning your month of fun!
February 2nd
Do you and your child(ren) love to roller skate? Head over to Rollhaven Skating Center in Grand Blanc for Tiny Tot Skate today from 10am until 12pm. This event is for children ages 6 and under, along with their parents. It’s a great time to socialize your child(ren) while having fun! Admission is $6 and includes skate rental. Infants in strollers are FREE and allowed on the skating surface! We hope to see you here!
Do you love to ice skate? Or do you have someone in your family who loves to ice skate? I know I do! Weather permitting, head downtown tonight from 5pm until 8pm for Free Community Open Skate at the University of Michigan-Flint. Skate rental is available for $3 and children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Head over to your local Home Depot from 9am until 12pm for this month’s Kids Workshop! The kids will be making a Valentine Bean Bag Toss this month! A tabletop game, perfect still to incorporate activity indoors as we get through these (hopefully) last days of Winter. Be sure to register so your location has enough supplies on hand!
Help kick off Black History Month with the Genesee District Library and Brunch at Genesys Banquet & Conference Center. Brunch will be from 10am until 12:15pm and tickets are required ($35 each). A portion of the proceeds from this ticketed event help to fund the GDL’s Summer Reading Challenge that reaches over 10,000 children and their families within our communities! There will be food {obviously}, music and an awards presentation honoring contributing members of our own community. If you are able, we hope to see you here!
Come out to the Fenton-Winegarden Branch of the Genesee District Library this morning for some Valentine Day fun! Library Assistant and tech-lover, Ryan Tackabury will teach us how to design items for 3D printing at 11am and then at 1pm, those designs from earlier are turned into necklace or brooch during Make a Valentine Gift with Tinkercad. All ages are welcome and we hope to see you there!
February 4th – We love the Flint Children’s Museum on a normal day. Throw in FREE DAY (sponsored by Kohl’s Care for Kids and Hurley Children’s Hospital) and you have our attention! From 12pm until 5pm today, you will gain FREE admission into the Museum. There are over 40 hands-on exhibits to play with and explore! Fun is sure to be had by all! We hope to see you there!
February 5th – It is never too early to instill the love of reading to your youngster. Head out to the Davison Library this morning at 9:30am for Story Time with Miss Marcia. You and your child(ren) will love reading and singing with her!
February 6th – Miss Katrina is at Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library today from 10:30am until 11am helping our littles do the most adorable downward dog you have ever seen! Class size is limited, so be sure to register now for Preschool Yoga!
February 6th – Looking for this months “feel good”? Head over to the Genesee-Johnson Library for Helping Hands tonight from 6pm until 7pm. You will join other volunteers in making Valentines for seniors in local nursing homes and assisted living centers. We hope to see you there!
February 7th – Do you have a budding actor/actress in your home? Geared for teens, ages 12 and up, Drama Club for Teens is the perfect spot for your teen to have a blast and explore their creativity in all things drama during this hour long event (from 3:30pm until 4:30pm) led by an acting coach from the Flint Youth Theater at the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library. Class size is limited, so be sure to register!
February 7th – Get your zen on tonight from 5:30pm until 6:30pm at the Goodrich Library with Yoga. Class size is limited, but you are sure to love this hour of zen and focus led by certified yoga instructor, Katrina. Be sure to register ahead of time to claim your seat!
February 9th – Did someone say chocolate? You betcha! Head out to Owosso tonight for their Chocolate Walk! Join us downtown from 5pm until 8pm and enjoy its sweetness like never before! Collect a variety of chocolate treats from more than 20 downtown locations! Tickets are $10 each and will sell fast, so be sure to get yours today!
February 10th – Today is Physics and Astronomy Day at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing! Come out from 10am until 5pm for an out-of-this-world day of exploration! Atoms and lasers, liquid nitrogen and more! We’ll see you and your scientists there!
February 10th – Celebrate friendship today by making and giving a Friendship Wish Bracelet to a special friend. We will be at Mt Morris Library this morning from 11am until 12pm braiding to our hearts content in order to share with our special friends! We hope to see you there!
February 10th – Tasty Layers of Burton presents Lunch & Cupcakes Princess Fantasy today! Join us from 11am until 1pm at The Captain’s Club at Woodfield in Grand Blanc for this magical event! Your Princess will have the chance to sing and dance with her favorite Princesses. Lunch, cupcakes and selfies! You need to register for this event, so please do so ahead of time. Tickets are $27 each. We’ll see you there!
February 10th – Sponsored by, and held at the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library, your child(ren) are invited to a Valentine’s Day Party from 1pm until 2pm. There will be treats and crafts and fun had by all! Please be sure to register all children who will attend this event to ensure enough supplies are on hand for everyone! February 10th – Are you ready to get the family up and moving? Join us today from 1pm until 3pm at Flint Iceland Arena for Adventures in Winterland! This is a FREE community event that will allow you to explore fun indoor and outdoor activities! Ice skate rentals are available at no cost today! There will be Ice Skating Lessons, Cooking with Kids Demonstration, Snowshoeing Lessons and so much more! Come and see all the wonder that winter has to offer! We’ll see you there!
February 10th – Head to Goodrich today and visit Yellow Dog Marketplace from 1pm until 6pm. You will have the opportunity to sample and support Michigan Food Vendors in the one day event, For the Love of Food! New foods and vendors will be highlighted today! We hope to see you there!
February 10th – Did someone say Mardi Gras? With $7.50 admission (and $4 rental), you will gain access to Rollhaven Skating Center in Flushing from 2pm until 5pm for Mardi Gras Skate! Admission includes party horns, crowns, tattoos (temporary, of course) and beads for every skater! We hope to see you on the rink!
February 10th – Join us at the Waterford Recreation Center today at two separate times for the event of the season! Daddy’s, get your daughter(s) ready for this Valentine’s Daddy Daughter Dance. Pre-registration is required. Time slots are 2pm until 4pm or 6pm until 8pm. Cost is $14 per person. This is sure to be a hopping night as you dance to the sounds of DJ Marky Mark! From 5pm until 12am, Not Your Momma’s, a pop up grilled cheese, YES, grilled cheese, food truck will be onsite to serve up twists to the classic grilled cheese! February 13th – Join us at the Goodrich Library this afternoon from 4:30pm until 5:30pm for their Diary of a Wimpy Kid Breakout Box Challenge. Celebrate the newest Wimpy Kid book, solve Wimpy puzzles, win Wimpy prizes, play Wimpy games and make Wimpy crafts. Fun is sure to be had by those ages 7 and up. We hope to see you there!
February 14th – Spend Valentine’s Day morning with your favorite Valentine at Beecher-Vera B. Rison Library for Story Time with Miss Sandy. Join in the fun with stories, songs and more! We hope to see you there!
February 16th – Looking for some family fun on this Friday night? Put your cozy PJ’s on and head over to the Waterford Recreation Center from 7pm until 9pm for Family Movie Night featuring Cars 3! Cost is $2 (cash) at the door. Popcorn and beverages will also be available for purchase. We hope to see you there!
February 17th – Did you ever wonder where snakes go in the winter? Or what about frogs and turtles? Head over to the Linden Library today from 11am until 12pm for Ribbet, it’s COLD outside! and learn the answers to these questions and so much more during this hands-on animal workshop! We hope to see there!
February 18th – Are you an Engineer at heart? Do you have someone at home that wants to be an Engineer when they grow up? Today was made for you/them! Michigan State University College of Engineering will be at Impression 5 Science Center today presenting A Day Engineered for Fun! From 12pm until 4pm, you will have an opportunity to meet and talk to MSU Engineering Club members and participate in themed activities! We hope to see you there!
February 21st – Having had someone very near and dear to me in Hospice care, this one is close to my heart. Genesee District Library Headquarters will be hosting Kindred-Flint Volunteer Recruitment today from 2:30pm until 3:15pm. Minnie Cabine, Volunteer Coordinator and Hospice Social Worker will be onsite to answer any questions you may have about ways you can help those in Hospice care. If you want to learn more, I strongly encourage you to attend and ask questions and learn!
February 23rd – Does your child(ren) have some energy to burn? How about joining us at Davisburg United Methodist Church tonight from 6pm until 9pm and “Bounce Off the Winter Blues”. This is sure to be a Bounce-O-Rama of a good time!
February 24th and 25th – Do you have a LEGO lover in your home? Us too! Join us as we visit Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing today and tomorrow from 10am until 5pm for its annual LEGO Palooza! FUNdraiser. Kids, ages 2 and older, are $15. Adults, $5 gets you in. We hope to see you there as you let your imagination run free!
February 24th – Sloan Museum is hosting Lil Sweeties Dance tonight from 5pm until 7pm. Head out with your lil sweetie for a night of dancing and treats! After dancing, head over to Longway Planetarium for a special showing of Perfect Little Planet. A perfect date night for all! Tickets are limited, so be sure to get yours today. $5 for ages 2 – 11, $6 for adults.
February 25th through February 28th
February 26th – Do you love to read? Join us at Swartz-Creek Perkins Library today from 3pm until 5:30pm for Doris’s Popcorn Reading Club! Pop in. join the club, grab some books, read to win. And maybe even have some popcorn along the way. We hope to see you there!
February 28th – Lose yourself tonight from 6:30pm until 7:30pm at the Goodrich Library as you join certified yoga instructor, Katrina for an hour of relaxation in this Yoga class. Class size is limited, so be sure to register ahead of time! We’ll bring our mat and see you there!
