The Armada Fair, A True Country Fair!

Growing up, I have a plethora of memories from going to the Armada Fair. Ever since I can remember, it’s been a huge part of my life. You could even go so far as to say that it’s a family thing.

My Grandma has been on the fair board since 1986, my mom was the Miss Armada chaperon from 1993-2010, and I took over for her in 2011. Being the chaperon for Miss Armada has been so fulfilling and rewarding for me. Not only do I get to mentor three young ladies each year, I get to be involved in parades in other communities, meet new people, and I get to be apart of every aspect of the fair. There is so much that goes into planning a fair; from admissions to events to the carnival. There are countless hours that are involved with making sure everything goes off without a hitch, and year after year the fair does not disappoint.

Families from all over Michigan come to the Armada Fair. Whether it’s for 4H purposes, to visit the carnival, watch the events at night, or just to participate with the different activities that are put on throughout the day, there is sure to be something for everyone who visits.

Some of my favorite events are the motorsport events {Demolition Derby & Figure 8}, the country music artist concert on Monday night, & the children’s activities that are put on throughout the week; my son especially loves those!

On Tuesday-Friday, there are free activities for kids ages 1-12. They can participate in a candy scramble, free rope making, free face painting, tractor pedal pulls, and more. Closer to dinner time, there are eating contests for all ages, which is always sure to be a fun time!

Our Queens even get involved in the eating contests!

The motorsports events that take place on Tuesday-Thursday always bring in a huge crowd. If you like loud motors, cars smashing and/or racing, then the motorsport events are calling your name! On Tuesday night, there is a Bump n Run, Wednesday a demolition derby {which my husband participates in}, and on Thursday there is a Figure 8 race. These provide hours of entertainment for the whole family; just be sure to bring headphones for the young children as it gets pretty loud!

Many people’s favorite part of the fair is the country music artist that comes on Monday night to perform. The fair always books an up-and-coming artist to perform and it proves to be a good time every year. This years talent is Midland, and I know there are thousands excited to come watch them play. I am lucky enough to be able to meet the entertainment every year and it’s always fun to chat with them about their experience on the road, their journey to stardom, and more.

As you can tell, there are many events all throughout the week that provide hours of fun and entertainment for the entire family. This is one fair you definitely don’t want to miss! For the entire fair schedule with all of the activities and events, please visit the Armada Fair website. All of the information you are looking for will be on the site and if you have any questions, go ahead and contact the fair office or comment on this post!

This years fair is taking place Monday, August 13- Sunday, August 19th.
