Fall is in the air! September is here! It’s time to wrap up your summer bucket list and jump into all the fall activities that Mid-Michigan has to offer. We’ve got you covered the Mid-Michigan Mom’s Guide to September.
September 1: Holly is hosting the Michigan Renaissance Festival on weekends throughout the month! Each weekend is themed and offers new and exciting activities for the whole family.
September 2: Happy Labor Day!
September 3: Beginning today, Howell Carnegie Library begins their evening programming for RMP – Read, Music, Play. On the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM, through January 7, children can enjoy a 20-minute program focusing on fingerplays, songs, stories, and social time followed by playtime. This is a drop-in program.
September 4: Join the Genesse District Library for Evening Story Time on the Patio at the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library at 6:00 PM.
Tonight, Bay City hosts The Wednesdays in the Park Summer Concert Series from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Wenonah Park. Tonight, the “Highway Men Live” will provide entertainment.
September 5: The Fenton Farmers Market is open 5:00 – 8:00 PM on the front lawn of the Fenton Community Center downtown. The Fenton Farmers Market is open on Thursdays through September 20.
September 6: Beginning today at noon, Frankenmuth is hosting their Frankenmuth Auto Fest Art & Craft Show through the beautiful downtown streets of this Mid-Michigan city. While you’re there visit the Art & Craft Show where local artisans will be on display.
September 7: Looking to plan a day date this month? Head on over to the Mid Mitten Cider Fest at Uncle John’s Cider Mill in St. John’st from 4:00 -7:00 PM for food, cider tasting, and music. Tickets are available here.
September 8: Celebrate Grandparents Day at the A.B. Dow Museum in Midland. Grandparents Day in the Museum takes place noon – 5:00 PM. Kids and families will enjoy a variety of activities including learning about building their family tree, ancestry, and genetics.
September 9: The Clarkston Independent District library incorporates stories and activities during their Little Gigglers program at 10:30 AM. This program is for toddlers, but siblings are also welcome to attend! Little Gigglers takes place on Monday mornings beginning today. Check their calendar for the official schedule.
September 10: Join the Genesse District Library for Family Reading Fun with Dasher the therapy dog. Reading begins at 6:30 PM at Montrose-Jennings Library.
September 11: Patriot Day! Visit the Clarkston Independent District Library for Wee Wigglers. Wee Wigglers is programming created for children who are 2 years old. Help build strong literacy skills with books, songs, and activities. Wee Wigglers takes place Wednesday mornings at 10:30 AM. View their schedule here.
September 12: Today kicks off Applefest at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. Visit this fall festival through September 15 and enjoy entertainment, food, games, rides, and of course a variety of apple desserts.
September 13: Join Katie, one of our lovely contributors, for Mornings with Mommy at Zion Lutheran Church in Chesaning from 10:30 – 11:30 AM. Mornings with Mommy takes place every Friday morning. Registration is required!
The 5th Annual Flint Hispanic Festival happens tonight at the Flint Farmers Market from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. The Flint Hispanic Festival offers evening fun for the whole family with ethnic food, entertainment, vendors, and artists.
September 14: Today from 10:00 AM-noon children ages 5 months and up can receive a free vision screening at Clarkston Independence District Library during the Children’s Kidsight Vision Screening.
September 15: Today at the Grand Blanc Farmers Market Pure Barre is offering a pop-up class at noon! Bring your yoga mat, water, and a friend!
September 16: Moms and Dads with babies 1-24 months can join Genesse District Libary for Baby Steps at Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library at 9:15 AM. No registration is necessary for this program!
September 17: Visit the Linden Library for Story Time with Miss Marcia today at 10:30 AM! Story Time takes place in Linden every Wednesday morning. Check the Genessee District Libary calendar for the official schedule.
September 18: Cromaine Library in Hartland hosts Little Bookworms at 9:30 AM for reading, singing, and playing. This program is created for 3-year-olds and an adult. Siblings are welcome to attend! This program requires registration by phone or online.
September 19: The Beecher Vera B. Rison Library hosts Fun with Robots tonight at 5:00 PM. Kids can learn to code and interact with a variety of robots!
September 20: Today at 10:00 AM Miss Nancy will be at the Mt. Morris Library for Story Time! Come listen to stories, sing-a-long, and have some fun with new friends. Story Time with Miss Nancy takes place on Friday mornings. View the Genesse District Libary calendar for their schedule.
September 21: Touch-a-Truck at Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum. This hands-on event lets kids discover and explore heavy-duty trucks, construction vehicles, farm equipment, military vehicles, emergency response transport, race cars, and more! This event begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM, rain or shine!
September 22: Spicer Orchard in Fenton hosts the second day of their Annual Wine & Harvest Festival. This event begins on September 21 and offers fall fun for the entire family!

September 24: The Clio Library hosts their morning programming today at 10:30 AM for Story Time with Miss Nancy!
September 25: Visit the Flint Children’s Museum as they host a special two-week program, Harvest Market. Kids learn to harvest vegetables from the museum’s Sproutside garden, paint with food, and find the hidden sunflower seeds. The program runs September 17-30.
September 26: For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum teaches kids about animals without backbones during Knee High Naturalist: No Bones About It! This program is for kids ages 3-6 and costs $4 per student. Registration is required!
September 27: On Friday mornings, Miss Toni is at the Fenton-Winegarten Library for Story Time at 10:30 AM.
September 28: Visit Bay City this weekend for River of Time 2019! River of Time features living history re-enactments over multiple time periods, music, a flyover, battles, old fashion root beer, kettle corn, and more!
September 29: Ann Arbor hosts their Harvest Festival today from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Campus Farm at University of Michigan. Celebrate the harvest season with food, music, farm tours, and activities for all ages! Thanks to local sponsors this is a free event!
September 30: Today the Flint Public Libary offers Sound Play with Amy Chin at 10:30 AM. Enjoy an action-packed, joy-filled, music and movement program with your children ages 5 and under.
