October is here!

The days of going to the apple orchards are dwindling, but the days of cider and donuts are still aplenty! Not to mention all of the ghouly and ghostly things that are happening this month {look for our “Trick Or Treat, Smell My Feet: Genesee County Guide to Halloween” entry for kid and family-friendly Halloween events throughout this month}!

Sunday, 10/1

Almar Orchards in Flushing is hosting the 2017 Scrumpy Skedaddle at 10am. This is sure to be a hit for the runner in you. All finishers will receive a custom glass and medal, not to mention the best hard {or soft} cider you can imagine! Hang out post-race for live music, an all you can eat pancake breakfast, and hard cider tasting.

 Grand Blanc Farmers Market is hosting Zumba!  There will be two sessions: one at 11 for your child(ren) and one at 11:30 for adults. Come out and dance your heart out!

 Upland Hills Farm Fall Harvest Festival is one of our FAVORITE fall events! Meet the farm animals, milk a cow, watch a farm demonstration, see Baffling Bill’s Magic Show, a hayride, pumpkin-picking and more!

Downtown Clarkston is hosting the 20th Annual Taste of Clarkston. Both sides of Main Street will be lined with over 50 restaurants and exhibitors. Sample tastes of different restaurants and what they have to offer for only $1 per ticket.  This is a family-friendly event, providing a safe, fun environment, including three Kidzones, two live music stages and much more. 

Weren’t able to make it to Zumba at the Market this morning?  How does Yoga Under the Stars sound? Pre-registration is required for this event hosted by Longway Planetarium.  Choose your constellation, absorb the colors and space of the cosmos, and experience the soul-felt vibrations of energy. We hope to see you there while we find our Zen!

Monday, 10/2

Davison Township Parks & Recreation with Candle Lit Yoga. Beginning Monday, October 2nd and going through November 20th, you have an opportunity to find your Zen. Learn basic yoga postures that will focus on flexibility, strength, balance, and relaxation while overlooking the woods. Check out the registration link and who knows, maybe we’ll see you there!

Thursday, 10/5

The Sloan Museum is a fan-favorite over at GCMB and today is no exception! On Thursday, October 5th, they are opening the Museum from 8:30a to 10a for a Clifford Sensory-Friendly Time event. Families with special needs are invited to explore the newest exhibit, Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog. Lights will be down to provide a safe, welcoming environment where children are always encouraged to be themselves!

Ladies! Do you need a night out? Williams Gun Sight Company in Davison is hosting Ladies Night!  Open to all skill levels, ladies are welcome to take over the Indoor Range the first Thursday of each month. Grab your best girlfriends and go make a night of it! 

Looking for more of a family event on Thursday, October 5th?  Check out Full Moon Hike – October! From 8p until 9:30p, join Robert Williams Nature & Historical Learning Center in Davison as they venture into the woods with the light of the moon guiding their path. Listen for creatures of the night and hunt for signs of animals. Finish the evening around a campfire with s’mores and stories of the moon.

Starting October 5th, A Joyful Noise Music Studio in Fenton is starting an eight-week class with your little one called Music and Movement. You {and your child} won’t be disappointed!

Friday, 10/6

First Fridays: Space Camp at Sloan Museum!
Learn all about Space Camp and the programs offered at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The presentation begins at 6pm, with a showing of the Ooky Spooky Light Show to follow!

Saturday, 10/7 – Saturday, 10/14

It’s that time of the month again when the Home Depot invites us over for their FREE hands-on Kids Workshop! I don’t know about you, but my child is going to love this month’s workshop. She gets a kick out of “feeding her piggy“, so this Fire House Bank is sure to be a hit with a “new bank in town”.  Be sure to register in advance!

Looking for a day out with the little princess(es) in your life?  Check out the Princess Tea Party on October 7th with Moana and Belle! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Zonta Club of Fenton and helping to take a stand against domestic violence. Be sure to reserve your spot today!

Wojo’s in Davison is bringing us two Saturdays of FREE, fun, family entertainment. On October 7th, and again on October 14th, join us for Fall Fun Days! There will be a “pick your own pumpkin”, photo ops, scavenger hunts, music, and more. You can even create your own fall scarecrow for $25 {proceeds benefit Genesee County 4-H}. 

Do you enjoy antiques and vintage collections? On October 7th and October 8th at Springfield Oaks County Park for the Davisburg Antique Festival & Vintage Market!  There will be hundreds of dealers on-hand selling treasures galore. Fill your weekend searching vintage jewelry, accent pieces, Americana, and more!

Stop by the Grand Blanc Fire Department for their annual Fire Safety Open House. There will be a lot of fun and educational activities for kids, as well as their fire apparatus on display. 

Tuesday, 10/10

Tenacity Brewing is hosting the Flint Handmade Coloring Party. This is a FREE family-friendly event and supplies will be provided. In celebration of “Taco Tuesday”, Vehicle City Tacos will be serving up delicious tacos from 5pm – 10pm. We hope to see many of you there in support of Flint Handmade!

Wednesday, 10/11

Bone Appetit Breakfast sounds delicious. Hosted by Sloan Museum, come out October 11th from 8:30a until 10a for a morning full of fun! Enjoy breakfast {including French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, juice, water and more}, story time with a special guest and extra time in the Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog exhibit! Advance registration is required, so make sure to get your tickets today!

Saturday, 10/14

En Plein Air” {French meaning painting outdoors}.  Join Davison Township Parks & Recreation for Art Camp. Children will spend a couple of hours learning to mix primary colors to get secondary colors, as well as paint outdoors and appreciate nature in the process. Be sure to check the event invite for the appropriate age session.  This is sure to be a fun time!

Get your Farmers Market on, and join us for the Flint Handmade 2nd Annual Halloween Mini Market! The Flint Farmers Market Atrium will be filled with local crafters and their spooky and fall harvest décor! FREE admission and a make-and-take craft.

Are eight-legged creatures your “cup of tea” {or your child’s, really}? If so, join us at Robert Williams Nature & Historical Learning Center for the Creepy Crawly Club – Spider Edition! There will be exploring, hiking, activities and more. All ages are encouraged, too!

What a perfect family date night! Geared towards ages 12 and up, Inspirations Arts and Crafts Workshop are hosting the Zombie Escape Games in Downtown Holly! Solve the puzzles and escape with all of your vital organs before time runs out! Travel downtown Holly for clues {all clues are within walking distance}. This event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine, so get ready to outrun those Zombies!

***Join Hurley Hospital as they partner with the Thomas Smith Memorial Foundation to offer FREE Teen Heart Health Checks to children ages 13 to 19. You must pre-register for this event that will take place at Fenton High School from 9 am to 3 pm. Heart health is very important. Please take a moment and register for this event, as well as read this entry from one of GCMB’s very own and her experience with heart health.***

DCER is hosting a painting event for grades 4 – 6. Canvas Sweets for Kids – October will be held on October 16th from 6p – 7:30p. Enjoy painting, snacks, music and new friends!

Tuesday, 10/17

I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet, and this is my chance. Inspirations Arts and Crafts Workshop is hosting a Learn to Crochet! class. Said to be great for all ages, so make it a family event! Reserve your spot for your skein of yarn and hook!

Friday, 10/20

Are you ready for a date night with your partner? Look no further. Love At First Bite – A Murder Mystery is just in time for Sweetest Day. Dinner and a Murder Mystery Halloween style. Get your tickets for this event that is being held at the Mount Morris Masonic Temple.

The season of mystery is upon us. Can’t make it to Mount Morris for their Murder Mystery? How does a date night with your partner in Flint sound? Join us at Churchill’s for a Masquerade Ball Murder Mystery. Fun, food, drink and a murder mystery!

Sunday, 10/21

Wojo’s Greenhouse in Davison is hosting Decorating Pumpkins with Succulents. This is a make-and-take workshop in which you can create your very own centerpiece for the upcoming holidays. Register at Wojo’s and bring your creativity. 

Genesys Athletic Club is hosting a Boo Dash 5k Fun Run. Goblins and monsters are sure to be a part of this frightfully fun, family-friendly event! Be sure to register early so not to miss out on this spooktacular event!

After you create your centerpiece or get your run on, head over to Fenton Winery & Brewery on October 21st for the Ghouls’ Garden & Taproomslyvania Costume Party! Yard games, special drink releases, and no cover. Make it a night out with the ladies or go on a date to take a chance to win a prize for best costume!

Come out to Clio Center for the Arts, Inc for a Window Painting class. The class will start at 5p and go until 7p. Cost for class and supplies is $40. Create a lasting decorative piece of work to display for years to come!

Sloan Museum is hosting Storybook Ball! Step into a world of enchantment with your favorite storybook characters. Enjoy punch and cookies and play in the Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog.  Be sure to get your tickets before they are gone!

Let’s bring back the 80’s!  Rollerhaven in Grand Blanc is going to be home to Rock’n the 80’s for GCAC animals. From 6 -8 pm, come dressed in your favorite valley girl outfit or hair band, skate the night away, and raise money for a good cause!

Tuesday, 10/24

Geared toward kids ages 10 and up, come out to the Fenton-Winegarden branch of the Genesee District Library and Customize a Fidget Spinner on the library’s 3D printer!  Register early because the class will fill quickly!

Thursday, 10/26

Clarkston Rotary Club brings us A Taste of the Holidays at Bordines from 6:30 to 8:30p.  Come out for the annual wine tasting charity event featuring international wines. Local eateries, as well as a few local breweries, will be onsite to round out the menu. Get your tickets now and make a night out of it!

Saturday, 10/28

Treehouse Adventures: Survival Skills 101. For ages five and older, you will learn what you need to do first if you get lost in the woods, including the basics of fire starting, shelter building and more. Dress to be outside and get dirty. We’ll see you at For-Mar Nature Presevere!

Holly High School Theatre Department brings us Tales of Edgar Allan Poe. You are invited to experience Poe’s dark tales in this unique theatrical presentation.

Kiss-for-a-Wish is a KISS tribute and dinner show at the Davison Country Club to raise money for Grant A Wish. Tickets include, dinner, show, and a costume contest with prize! Come out and support this cause!

Monday, 10/30

Cocoa & Crafts and the Fenton-Winegarden branch of the Genesee District Library.  Come on out to the Children’s Center for a special playtime, including a story, wall art, crafts and snacks.

Tuesday, 10/31

Start ’em early and share your love of exercise! Join Miss Katrina at Grand Blanc-McFarlen branch of the Genesee District Library for Preschool Yoga. This is a weekly program that requires registration, so be sure to register!
