Summer Shuffle and Soccer

Have you ever just stood and looked at your calendar and wished to yourself there was more time in a day, more days in a month? Like how it is possible that by the time June 1st hits, the days of summer are already booked?

On top of all the grad parties, weddings, baby showers, there is soccer, swimming, music lessons, and more! This of course does not include the 8-5 work grind Monday-Friday, and all the other random appointments a family of five has to make! Many a day, members of our family are shuffled from one place to another, from school to practice, home to soccer field, soccer field to swim lessons, just trying to make everything work only for it to be 8pm and all us staring at each other, asking, “what’s for dinner”?

Luckily for us, our family loves breakfast for dinner! What is quicker and easier than a bowl of cereal? From my husband all the way down to our toddler, the cereal solution works (and is loved) by everyone in our family.  My kids can enjoy a bowl of Post Cereals while finishing up chores, watching Major League Soccer on TV before bed, snap-chatting, or trying some of the fun Post Cereal recipes in the kitchen with their friends. Not to mention, I have no qualms about letting my baby dig in to a box during our nightly bedtime stories. Our family favorites are Honey Bunches of Oats®, Honey Maid S’mores®, Oreo O’s®, and Fruity Pebbles®.

And it’s not just last minute dinners when Post Cereals save the day, it’s vital for our summer shuffle!  When our daughter has finished up a swim lesson and we’re heading over to our son’s soccer game, and he is SO hungry a snack sized bag filled with cereal is the perfect go-to. In reality the meal he ate an hour earlier should hold him over, but he’s almost five and there is no rationalizing with that. Keeping him happy, semi-behaving and ready to rock on the soccer field requires food, and food he likes at that. Post Cereals for the win! It keeps him energized whether he is dribbling the ball to the wrong goal or picking daisies in mid-field. I also like to keep these bags in my diaper bag for all the spectators, i.e. that ten-month-old who always seems to be hungry about midway through the second half of the game.

The madness of summer schedules sometimes makes you question if all of it {the sports, the events, the career} is worth the time, energy, and lack of rest. Then you look at your children: sun-kissed, happy, and enjoying time with their teammates, and it reiterates that YES, we can do all of this and we will!
