Let’s face it, at some point or another, most moms feel like they just aren’t doing anything right. Here are a few mom compliments you can give the mothers in your life and brighten someone’s day!
- You look fantastic!
Women are so incredibly hard on themselves when it comes to their physical appearance. God bless Kate Middleton for bearing her gorgeous face for the world to see just hours after giving birth- I’m 3 years postpartum and still struggle to get myself looking put-together most days. So tell the moms in your life how great they look! And when they inevitably scoff and insist the bags under their eyes look terrible, you best tell them they are insane! - They look just like you!
Especially if she has boys. Especially if they look just like their father. Every mom craves to feel some sort of physical resemblance to their kids. I think it’s some sort of primal instinct to know that others can recognize their offspring as belonging to them. - Thank you for making the time!
The words “free” and “time” almost never fall next to each other in a sentence for moms. Time is a precious commodity for parents, so if a mom you know took a couple minutes out of her day to help someone out, do something special for you, or even just send a quick text – acknowledge it. This compliment will not only make her feel appreciated, but it just might make her more apt to keep wanting to do those things again in the future! - You’re setting such a great example for your kids(s)!
Whether a mom is staying at home, working outside the home, or doing a combination of both, a compliment of this nature will help her know that her job is important. Even more, she needs to hear that you know her role is tough and that her kids are going to be proud of her no matter what. - You are such a great mom!
It seems simple, right? But far too often it goes unsaid, especially if her kids are too little to say this on their own yet. Even just thinking about the last time someone told me I was a great mom brings a smile to my face! I’m willing to bet on more than one occasion she’s told herself the opposite: that’s she a terrible mom. So help her turn that self-doubt around with this short and sweet compliment! - You’ve given up a lot, and it’s worth it!
Mothers are often shamed for missing life B.K. (Before Kids). There is absolutely nothing wrong with longing for days when they could go out for dinner, see a movie, go on vacation, or heck even just go to sleep without having to care for and worry about a tiny human. And let’s not forget everything a woman’s body goes through during and after pregnancy & delivery. She’s literally given up her former self to become a mother. You can validate her by recognizing her struggle and in turn, that’ll remind her how lucky she is to have that tiny human who is the reason she can’t laugh without peeing anymore. - I know it’s hard and you’re doing the best you can!
This one is especially meaningful when it comes from a fellow parent. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world. It’s like a tiny piece of every job you could possibly have, all rolled up into one: teacher, engineer, therapist, doctor, CEO, garbage-man, coach…the list goes on and on! It’s not possible to be perfect, but we’re all doing our best and we’re all going to screw up in one way or another. The important thing is that we never stop trying!
Make sure you take the opportunity to compliment each other, it goes a long way!
