August is upon us.  One final month of summer before the kids head back to school!

All Month Long!

In anticipation of the August 21st Eclipse, Longway Planetarium is showing Eclipse: The Sun Revealed! Show times are at 2:30 pm daily. Discover the geometry that gives us eclipses and learn how to safely view an eclipse. Hear a gripping first-hand account of one eclipse chaser’s experience during a total solar eclipse. Recommended for ages 10 and older.

August 1

The Crim Fitness Foundation is hosting a Cooking Healthy – Cooking Demonstration!  This is an hour long session beginning at noon, in which you will learn to prepare a recipe with locally grown produce.  Cost is $10 general admission, $5 for members.

After getting your cooking demonstration on, how does a night on the town with your girlfriends or significant other sound?  Head over to the Clio Amphitheater for some music!  Magic Bus will display their musical abilities in a Tribute to Woodstock Era.  Gates open at 6pm and cost is $6 per person at the gate.

Grand Blanc Township Police Department is hosting it’s 2017 National Night Out from 5p – 8p tonight!  Come on out for this community-building campaign that promotes a partnership between local police and its neighborhoods to build a camaraderie to make our towns safer.  Activities for the entire family include, Officers and vehicles, Fire Department demonstrations, K-9 Demonstrations, car seat checks, bounce houses and more! 

August 4

First Friday Food Truck Festival is happening again in Grand Blanc!  You can’t go wrong with all the tasty food truck vendors that are available.  Bring your families and your appetites! 

Travel back in time with your child(ren) at Swartz Creek of Performing Arts Center and share with them that peculiar Nanny that we all wish we had as children (or at least I did).  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!  Mary Poppins will be on stage at 7pm!  Admission is $10. Runs through August 12th!

August 5

Hosted by the Genesee County Fair and proceeds benefiting such, come on over to the Mt Morris Masonic Temple for a Farmer’s Breakfast!  $8 for adults, $4 for children, ages 5 – 12 and Free for children under 4.

You can’t go wrong with the kids workshop sponsored by Home Depot.  On Saturday, August 5th, your child(ren) will have the chance to build a Penske Truck!  Be sure to register ahead of time so that all the necessary (and did we mention free?) supplies are available to you.

Join us in Grand Blanc as the Grand Blanc Art Council hosts a Summer Art Fair.  Held rain or shine in Physician’s Park, come out and enjoy all of the original art that will be on display and for sale, along with music and fun for the whole family! Runs through August 6th!

Join us at Robert Williams Nature & Historical Learning Center in Davison for an Owl Prowl.  Naturalist Megan Berry will help us learn about local owls and the sounds they make.  We’ll then take to the trails and put to practice what we learned!  This event will begin at 6pm.  The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.  Come on out for an evening of fun and learning!

August 7

Designated as Tune Up Week.  Attractions and activities will vary by location, but you are sure to find a theme, food, vendors, music, dancing and more!  Tune Up in Davison, Clio, Linden, Fenton, Flushing/Swartz Creek and Mt Morris/Beecher! Do you know what August in Flint and Genesee County really means?  Back to the Bricks

August 8

Davison Township Parks & Recreation is pleased to host Fantastic Fish at Lake Callis today!  From 10 am – 11 am, you and your child(ren) will have a chance to get up close and personal with some of Michigan’s fish!  Make your own fishing pole and then try your hand at angling the perfect fish!  Cost is $3 per child for residents and $5 per child for non-residents.

August 11

Sing your heart out, and don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs or blankets. It’s Movies Under the Stars at Applewood EstatesSING will be on the big screen tonight while you snack on your free popcorn and enjoy games, giveaways and fun for the entire family!

Head over to the Flint Cultural Center for three days of the finest Jazz available as we celebrate the Flint Jazz Festival!  It is sure to be a great weekend with live jazz, art, crafts, food, drinks and more! Runs through August 13th!

August 12

Reading is so important in our family, as I am sure it is a part of yours.  We are excited to dress like a pirate and head out to Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad today for Literary DayTreasure Island will come to life in the Village with pirates, crafts and more!  Maybe we’ll see you there!

Head to For Mar Nature Preserve for the Monarch Festival! It’s a magical day filled with butterfly games, crafts and naturalist led hikes through the For-Mar Butterfly House and gardens. Pre-registration required.

August 15 – 19 is known as Main Event Week!

August 15

Kick off this five-day extravaganza with a family-oriented part at the Drive-In!  Gates will open at 4 pm at the US23 Drive-In theater on Fenton Road.  Games, displays and music before the movie at dusk!

August 15, 16, 17

Gather the streets from 5 pm to 9 pm in downtown Flint to Grand Blanc for the “Rolling Cruise“.

August 16 – 20

Head north in Genesee County for the 46th Annual Montrose Blueberry Festival!  From a Royal Tea Party, a Teen Dance, arts & crafts, flea market, food booths, carnival rides and more, you won’t want to miss out on all the blueberry action!

August 17 – 18

Car enthusiasts are invited to meet and share stories, locate and purchase parts and accessories to restore or modify a vehicle or just browse at the Swap Meet located in Grand Blanc.

August 18

4th annual Back to the Bricks Cruise N’ Concert is sure to rock to streets!  This is a FREE outdoor concert with food vendors, children’s activities, specialty car displays and more!  Gates will open at 5p and concert will start at 7:30p.

August 18 – 20

While not Genesee County, it is our neighbor and always a good time!  Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Lapeer Days this weekend.  Dubbed as “Michigan’s Largest FREE Festival“, you are sure to find something for everyone this weekend!  From the parade, arts & crafts, a car show, soap box derby, helicopter rides, food trucks, music, carnival rides and more!  Check out the festival homepage here!  Maybe we’ll see you there (this is my favorite festival for elephant ears)!

August 18 – 27

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad open up the railroad tracks for Thomas the Tank Engine again this year, and you don’t want to miss it!  Spend an exciting Day Out With Thomas and his friends!  Tickets are $22 and include admission to Crossroads Village, a 40-minute train ride with Thomas, a meet and greet with Sir Topham Hatt and Bob the Builder, lots of Thomas and friends themed activities, not to mention all of the Village activities taking place!  We at Genesee County Moms Blog love Crossroads Village and have many children between us that love Thomas!  We hope to see you there!

August 19

Today is the day!  Get an early start and take to the street with the Saturday Show from 8a to 5p.  Vehicles of every age and description will line the brick streets in downtown Flint.  Take pictures, buy souvenirs, have fun and make memories!

August 21 – 27

Head over to Mt Morris for the Genesee County Fair!  It is no doubt, that this year hosts an amazing Grandstand Lineup, including a Monster Truck Shootout, a Figure 8 Derby, Concerts, a Rodeo and a Truck & Tractor Pull!  Parking is $7 and it is free to enter the fairgrounds, however, to enter Grandstand and ride the rides, there are additional passes/tickets to purchase.

August 25

Flint City Hall‘s back lawn is sure to be packed tonight for Movies Under the Stars – “Finding Dory”!  Games, activities and snacks in a safe and family-friendly environment will begin at 7:30p.  This free movie will begin at dusk on a 30-foot movie screen!  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and we’ll see you under the stars!

August 25-26

HAP presents Crim Festival of Races!  Register today to participate is Flint’s greatest and largest annual event!  There is something for everyone!  If you can’t participate in the race, take to the sidelines and cheer those running, on!  Then head over to the Festival Lot in downtown for free music and entertainment, including a beer tent, live bands, food vendors and more!
