You are the Dad Everyone Wishes They Had

We more often than not hear the terrible stories relating to dads. But not very often do we hear stories relating to good dads. We are all so quick to judge our husbands, dads, or friend’s husbands when it comes to the things they do wrong.

What a difference we could make if we all stopped and recognized the real MVPs…. the GOOD dads.

When I was three months old, my biological father walked out on my mother and myself. This situation forced my mother and me to move in with my grandparents. For the first three years of my life, my grandaddy was my “dad.” He loved me, cared for me, taught me about Christ, and did the best he could to fill the void of my real father. I would never have been the person I am today if it were not for him.

Fast forward to three years old, my mother meets the man who would one day become the daddy I always needed and wanted. He would pick me up when I was down, discipline me when needed, love me unconditionally, and had the qualities I would one day look for in a husband and father to my future children. He was the real MVP of my life.

At twenty-nine, I am married to an amazing man. He is the sweetest, most kind-hearted man I have ever met. But what makes him even more amazing is the way he loves and cares for our son, Atticus. He goes above and beyond to be present in his life, and with instilling the deep bond a father should have with their son. Yes, the world is not all cupcakes and rainbows, but my husband tries his hardest to be the best husband and daddy he can possibly be.

We as wives should praise our husbands and acknowledge the good things they do. We should be willing to recognize some days will better than others, but also willing to let our husbands know we are thankful for them and all they do. For every bad thing that happens or is said, acknowledge two good things that have happened.

To all the good dads out there: kudos to you for stepping up and being the man and husband you were called to be. You do not get nearly the recognition you deserve. Love your children the best you can, and do not worry about any backlash you may receive. Your children will appreciate the love you give them when they are older!

“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.”- Billy Graham
