A Mom’s Guide to November

This year has flown by! There are less than sixty days left of 2017! 

Have you fulfilled your New Years resolution?  Done all you wanted to do?  Spent enough time with your family and friends?  If not, let us help fill your next thirty days!

We’ve expanded out beyond Genesee County this month because there is SO much to see and do out there and so close to our own backyards!  Enjoy!

Sunday, November 5th

 Friends of the Davison Area Library Book Sale. Grow your family’s love of reading while supporting your local library! Come on out and find your next great read from 1 – 3 pm!

Monday, November 6th

 Candle Lit Yoga. Davison Township Parks and Recreation is hosting this event from 7:15 – 8:15 pm at the Robert Williams Nature and Historical Learning Center. Focus on flexibility, strength, balance and relaxation while enjoying the beautiful scenery! 

Tuesday, November 7th

Let’s Hike It Baby!  The air is definitely getting colder out there, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get outside and explore! Bring your little ones and help instill the love of the at For-Mar Nature Center. Programming begins at 10 am.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Breakout Box Challenge. Do you have a child who loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books?  Bring them to the Swartz Creek-Perkins Library from 6 – 7:30 pm. Celebrate, check out the newest book, The Getaway, solve puzzles, play games, and win prizes! 

Holiday How To ClassesZehnder’s of Frankenmuth is hosting this fun event from 11-7 – 11/9.  Learn how to make a classic German Butterhorn, Grandma’s Nut Log, Soup & Salad for the Holidays, Gingerbread Houses, Decorating Holiday Cookies, Christmas Candy Gifts, Yule Log, Date Cookies & Cranberry, as well as Hosting the Perfect Holiday Party.  Each class requires its own registration.  Find out more details here

Wednesday, November 8th

Dragons Love Tacos! Do you love the book as much as we do?!!  The Temple Theatre in Saginaw is hosting an event where contemporary children’s books like this will come to life! Reserve your spot now, and enjoy talented performers sing and dance across the stage, bringing these amazing books to life.

“Wishes for Whaley”. Buffalo Wild Wings is supporting this campaign from 5 – 9 pm. 15% of your food sales from the Flint location will be donated to Whaley Children’s Center.  The catch?  You need to print out this “ticket” from the Facebook event invite.  We hope to see you there as the community comes together to support a great cause!

Yoga at the Library. Where are our Yogis?  The Genesee County District Library in Goodrich is hosting a class at 5:30 pm. Come on out and get your relaxation on!  

Thursday, November 9th

Wine and DesignHaslett is a short drive across I-69 and home to Van Atta’s Greenhouse and Flower Shop. Gather your girlfriends and head out for this Evergreen Arrangement Class, from 6 – 7:30 pm.  You’ll leave with a beautiful pot that will last you all winter long!

DATE NIGHT!  Looking to stay closer to home?  Head over to Tenacity Brewing for Two O’ Clock High.  Bringing together many years of musical experience, they will perform a mix of covers from 7 – 10 pm.

Friday, November 10th

Downtown Flint Vintage Junkin’ and Art Walk is happening from 5 – 9 pm.  Bring the family and shop and dine local while enjoying the nightlife of Downtown Flint! Check out the new restaurants popping up, art on display and more!  

Birch Run Scrapbooking & Stamping Show. Calling all scrapbookers!  This show is going on all weekend from 10 – 5 pm at the Birch Run Expo Center.  This a is a paper crafter’s paradise!  There will be a huge selection of scrapbooking, stamping, crafting, ideas and more!  I look forward to this weekend every year!  Who knows?  Maybe I’ll see you there!

 Treehouse Story Time at For-Mar Nature is happening from 11 am – 12 pm! Reading is so important at any age! There is no better time than now to sprout the love of reading AND nature. Enjoy books, songs and craft making!

Fall Ladies Night Out! Grab your girlfriends and head to Downtown Holly from 5 – 9 pm. There will be lots of in-store specials, contests, treats, live music and so much more!  Be one of the first 500 ladies wearing a scarf to visit the Welcome Table and receive a FREE “bag of swag”!  There is so much happening this night it would be nearly impossible to list!  We hope to see you and your girlfriends on the town!

Denim and Diamonds. Head over the Holiday Inn – Flint for this amazing event, in its first year!  From 6 – 11 pm, join Pure Bliss Salon and Spa for this 1st Annual Gala to benefit the Weiss Child Advocacy Center.  There will be a hair and make-up runway show, a full size to scale family feud game, silent auction, wall of cheer, food, dancing and more!  Be sure to get your tickets here and support this great community cause!

Saturday, November 11th

Flint Handmade 4th Annual Book Lovers’ Craft FairAt the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Library on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 10am-4pm. This annual event features local artisans with handmade goods related to books, authors, reading and libraries. Admission is FREE! Includes a free make-and-take craft for all ages!

Yoga Benefit at Core Connection Pilates and Fitness in Clarkston. Curious about the Core Connection Studio and yoga program? Come check it out and help the needy for the holidays! The class is free, but donations are suggested. All proceeds go to the Davisburg Rotary Holiday Basket Program.

Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing is a GCMB favorite! Their Holiday STEM Market! (21 & up) is happening!  You will have a chance to explore hands-on STEM-focused gifts, toys, books and more for the child in your family!  Holiday shopping for adults 21 and up, featuring beer, wine and some light snacks.  Make holiday shopping fun this year!  

Ladies Night! Alright ladies!  Here is another night for you!  The Metamora Lions Club is hosting its 27th Annual Shrimp Night! Participate in this ladies only event featuring all you can eat shrimp and potatoes!  There will prizes, raffles, 50/50’s and shenanigans!  Remember, no good party story every starts with eating a salad!  We hope to see you there!

Thanksgiving Tea Party for Kids. Come on out to the Goodrich branch of the Genesee District Library!  From 1 – 2 pm, enjoy snacks, crafts and tea to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!

Inaugural Holiday Market. Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its today from 3 – 7 pm. Get a jump-start on your holiday shopping while enjoying hot chocolate, s’mores, holiday lights and more!  This is a FREE event for the entire family and sure to be wonderful start to the holiday season!  Look for Horse Drawn Carriage Rides, Live Reindeer and crafts for the kids.

 Family Holiday STEM Market. Head over to Impression 5 Science Center from 10 am until 4 pm!  You and your family will experience the hands-on exhibits, be able to do some holiday shopping and participate in a book signing!  This is sure to be a fun day in Lansing!  We hope to run into you there!

Holiday Open House 2017. Are you in the holiday spirit yet?  Do you need some inspiration?  Head over to The Weed Lady in Grand Blanc today from 10 am until 4 pm for. Join in the beauty of the season with hors d’oeuvres, live music and decorating inspiration! 

Monday, November 13th

Vehicle City Fashion Week kicks off today, and runs through the 18th!  Hosted by one of GCMB’s very own, Kala Wilburn, this is an amazing week of fashion!  Models are preparing, musicians are warming up…this is sure to be a week to remember!  Be sure to follow here for updates!

Ladies Night Out 2017. GCMB absolutely LOVES Crossroads Village and tonight is no exception!  Ladies, this one is for YOU!  Grab your shopping buddies and get a jump start to the holiday shopping frenzy tonight under the festive glow of Crossroads Village! From 4 -9 pm you will enjoy shopping, crafts, holiday lights, vintage rides and more. The perfect way to kick off the holiday season!

Wednesday, November 15th

Cook and Serve Thanksgiving lunch for the St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center. Join the Junior League of Flint in giving back this season. Their annual Thanksgiving meal event will take place from 11 am –  2 pm. Prepared food can either be brought to the center when you volunteer, or can be dropped off by 10 am. Can’t attend, but would like to donate food? Please sign up for needed food items here.

Thursday, November 16th

Fused Glass Ornaments Workshop. Black Door Design in Flushing is hosting an event for those hard to buy for people in your life this holiday season. From 6 – 8 pm. There will be a demonstration followed by the opportunity to design and decorate your own ornament.  Space is limited, so be sure to register soon!

Ladies Night. I love how the month of November seems to be all about us ladies!  We deserve it, you know?  Well, Gerych’s in Fenton knows it! From 6 – 9 pm, enjoy shopping, some pampering, valet parking, photo booth fun and more! There will be an opportunity to sample some delicious food from area restaurants, as well as local vendors onsite to do some shopping with!

Essential Oils Holiday Party. Our family favorite, Cops & Robbers in Flushing, is hosting a tonight from 7 – 8 pm.  This is a FREE workshop in which you will learn how to make holiday gifts using essential oils.  We hope to see you in Cell Block A!

Friday, November 17th

Ladies Night Out. It is that time of year again when Downtown Fenton hosts its annual shopping event!  Businesses throughout town go above and beyond to make this a fun evening for the ladies!  Grab a punch card and turn it in with at least 10 punches for a chance to win an amazing prize!  Event runs from 4 until 9 pm.

Deer Widows Weekend.  November is all about the ladies because….hunting season! Many of us become “Deer Widows”. Check out Birch Run Premium Outlets this weekend for its annual DWW! It is hunting season, but bargain hunting this time around!  Be sure to check here for a full list of event details! Events runs through the 19th.

Wonderland of Lights.  We at GCMB love Potter Park Zoo in Lansing! Now through the end of December, head out to Lansing from 5 – 8 pm for this event, in its 23rd year.  Thousands of lights create extraordinary animal exhibits and holiday displays. Enjoy cookies, crafts and animal encounters! We hope to see you out at some point during the holiday season! Event runs through 12/31.

Saturday, November 18th

Do you want to build a snowman? Come on!  You know you read that in your best Princess Anna voice!  For-Mar Nature Preserve has put together all the pieces for your own snowman kit – minus the snow.  Come out from 10 am until 12 pm and pick-up your own DIY kit. This is sure to be a winter fun activity in your family!

2017 Grand Blanc Chocolate 5K. Did someone say chocolate?! You betcha! Chocolate treats await finishers inside the Grand Blanc High School East Campus Gym after completing the  “Run like there’s Chocolate at the finish line!” We will cheer you on!

Family Coloring Night. On 11/21, come to the Beecher-Vera B. Rison branch of the Genesee District Library from 5 – 7 pm!  Bring the family and enjoy coloring and snacks!  This is sure to put any stress on the back-burner, while you enjoy this night together.

FREE Thanksgiving CommUNITY Meal. On 11/23, The Barn in Fenton is at it again and our hearts could not be more full!  They will host this 3rd Annual event from 11 am until 2 pm. Transportation can be arranged if needed. Want to offer The Barn help on Thanksgiving? Check out this link for more information!

Glow Run. Head to Downtown Owosso on 11/24 from 6:40 until 9:40 pm!  Stroll downtown, sip some hot cocoa, shop, and get ready for the lighted parade at 6:45 pm, followed by the city Christmas Tree lighting and Santa visits! 

The Wizard of Oz. Head out to the Whiting for this classic tale, that will come to life on stage. The performance “will blow you away from the moment the tornado touches down and transports you to a dazzling Oz, complete with munchkins and flying monkeys.” Tickets available here for the 11/24 show.

Cosmic Christmas at Longway Planetarium. 11/24 – 12/30, enjoy a Christmas light show made right there at Longway Planetarium! Featuring 16 songs to fill you with cheer, including holiday classics, some new hits, and a few fun oddities. Cosmic Christmas is set to stunning visuals in a festival of Christmas splendor. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Showtimes: daily at 4 pm + Thursday – Saturday at 7 pm.

1st Annual Preservers 5K Run/Walk and 1/2 Mile Mini Monarch Migration – Races for the Superhero in you! Are you still looking to work off some of that delicious turkey from Thanksgiving?  For-Mar Nature has the cure.  On 11/25, fly through the trails from 10 am until 1 pm.  There will be a Kid’s Superhero Training Area, a 1/2 Mile Mini Monarch Migration Kids Race and The Preserves 5K Run/Walk.  Be sure to register for any of these events, as t-shirts and medals will be given out!

Customize a Fidget Spinner. Did you miss your chance last month to take part in this popular event?  On 11/28, come out to the Fenton-Winegarden branch of the Genesee District Library tonight from 4 until 5 pm to get your opportunity now using the library’s 3D printer!  This is the perfect craft night for the child in your home aged 10 or older.

Holiday Shop & Sip  The 2nd Annual Holiday Shop & Sip at Holy Family School in Grand Blanc is taking place on 11/30 from 5 – 8 pm. Support local businesses, pick up those teacher & hostess gifts {and a few gifts for yourself!}, sip some amazing beverages and shop with your friends! Heineken USA and O’Sullivan’s are the adult beverage sponsors for the evening. All are welcome!!$5 entry fee includes drinks, snacks and several chances to win some pretty awesome raffle items! 

Wild Adventures:  Prepping to Sleep until Spring! How do animals cope during the winter months?  Come dressed for the weather and see for yourself on 11/30 at For-Mar Nature Preserve. You will learn how different animals and humans make it through the cold of winter.

Children can work together to fill Clifford’s big dog bowl, and gain self-confidence on stage with Clifford and his pals. Explore T-Bone’s beach, find buried treasure, and build a sandcastle. Start a dance party and play instruments in the Musical Marina. Crawl through the tunnel in Cleo’s Backyard and try shape-sorting and matching activities. Browse the Norman Bridwell Art Retrospective –and create some art of your own! Castaway Play Cafe Share the Love Food Drive. One of our favorite indoor play areas is hosting a Food Drive from November 5th – 22nd. Bring in a can of food and get FREE parent admission, and pay only $7 per child! Featuring a giant play structure, bounce houses, laser tag plus an arcade and a restaurant, Castaway Play is a great spot for the entire family to enjoy!
