Mama Always Said: A Team Tribute to our Moms

I remember the first time it happened to me, the last word rolled off my tongue and it literally stopped in my tracks… oh my gosh, I am my mother.

Life is funny like that.  One minute you’re a thirteen year old girl mad at your mom because she refuses to buy you another pair of Abercrombie jeans, next you’re sixteen rolling your eyes that you can’t stay out all night. Then you’re twenty-one at college and you never want to go home, twenty-five in the blink of an eye and she’s adjusting your wedding dress. Then you’re almost thirty and you call her for every bit of advice when it comes to raising your own children.  She knows more than you could ever comprehend, has an arsenal full of tricks {that actually work}, and it blows your mind because you swore in your youth you’d never be like her.

All the things you thought you knew, the rules that made no sense, all coming full circle.  I know personally for me it pains me to think about how I acted back in my teenage years {and quite frankly still do some days}. For all the times I thought she was just being a “mean mom,” my mom was doing it for a reason, a good reason at that. I see now why she had her sayings, and why she used my dad as a threat {haha} when it came to laying down the law. Now I’m trying to lock up every bit of that because, as my littles grow, I know there is going to be a day that I need her advice!

I decided to reach out to my fellow Mid-Michigan Moms Blog Contributors to see what bit of advice they tucked away from their own mothers, because let’s be real: parenting is always done best with a little know how from others! And what better time to tap that wisdom than Mother’s Day?

My girls and the motherly figures in their lives didn’t let me down.
