Meet Mandy Brown, a Standish Mom Navigating Life’s Adventures

Hello! I’m Mandy Brown, a Standish area mother. I am currently a full-time student working on a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts focusing on Photography, minoring in Graphic Design and Creative Writing. I am the step-mother to a wonderful pre-teen boy who just happens to have high functioning autism, two dogs, and two cats. While I’m a full-time student, my husband works as a school bus driver. Together we are learning to navigate our adventures, while avoiding the pitfalls of sensory overload, as a team. While this isn’t always an easy journey it is ours to embrace.

I was born and raised in Saginaw, but I spent the last 10 years living in SW Michigan. There I met my wonderful husband and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. Three years ago, my husband and son decided to relocate closer to my family. We chose Standish. We love Standish for its small town feel. We also love being close to Lake Huron. I hope to be able to share with you all of the amazing small town events we love to participate in. I can’t wait to share our beautiful farmers market and other unique events from my area.

Here in Standish, we have become active in our local Cub Scouts. My son is finishing his final year of cub scouts before he crosses over to Boy Scouts this May. I have been a leader for the last two years and though I will miss the cub scouts, I look forward to new adventures with Boy Scouts and sharing with everyone the changes coming to Scouting.

Our family has a love of museums, amusement parks, and Anime conventions. I have 11 years of experience working as a convention volunteer and we spend at least 4 weekends a year with the anime convention community. Working security, we are able to not only enjoy the conventions but also help ensure that others are able to fully enjoy them as well. I hope to share this world with other mothers who may find their children enjoying this incredibly diverse community. I love to talk about Anime community and help parents understand what this space can mean to their child.

We love to find new and exciting ways to explore and enjoy our fair state. Visits to the beach are a must. Since moving back to the eastern side of the state we have begun seeking out great beaches and we can’t wait to share the hidden gems we find. This summer we hope to explore along the coast of  Lake Huron.

We look forward to new adventures camping, hiking, swimming, and kayaking across our beautiful state. We also look forward to exploring all of the museums and historical places we can find and though not all of them are in Michigan we look forward to sharing our experiences as well.

Come, join me on my continuing adventures in raising a neurodiverse pre-teen boy, finishing my degree, trying to conceive, and volunteering. I can’t wait to share our experiences with you.
