Meet Christine, Mother of Dragons, Eraser of Stains

Yoo-hoo!! I’m Christine and I was born and raised in Grand Blanc, Michigan. I studied Economics and Writing at EMU and worked for my family’s construction company after graduation. While I learned about the scarcity of resources and the value of hard work, nothing could have prepared me for the complexities of raising two seemingly feral boys.

Most of the time, I’m barely keeping it together while managing the three ring circus I call family and therefore am a huge fan of “do what works for you” parenting.

I met and married my husband and best friend, Wally, while working as a landscaper and equipment operator and scored my dream job as a stay at home mom when our oldest, Michael, now 4, was born. Our family, including my grown stepdaughter, Sam, welcomed our second son, Andrew just 13 months later.

In an effort to preserve what’s left of the inside of our home, we can often be found enjoying the outdoors as long as the weather even moderately cooperates. As a SAHM whose husband works long hours, I aim to keep my curious sons busy and focused. If we’re not working in our yard or walking our two German Shepherds, Gertie and Griffin, we’re exploring at For-Mar Nature Preserve or Bicentennial Park, playing at Physician’s or Rust Park, or enjoying play dates with family and friends.

In the absence of family and close friends nearby, we’ve been blessed to live in a neighborhood full of friends to play and ride bikes with and to have found a community of moms to connect with in Parents as Teachers and Children’s Garden.

When the stars align and I have a few quiet moments to myself, I love to watch TV or read. Some of my favorites are The Office and Game of Thrones, all 80’s movie classics, Band of Brothers and Forensic Files. I’ll read any novel with a good review especially if it was written by Stephen King or Bunmi Laditan.

I also love to cook, clean and cheer on the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Whether perfecting an old family recipe or making a kid-friendly favorite found online, I look forward to the day my boys enjoy my carefully prepared meals as much as they enjoy PB&J’s. Wally and I make it to one game each season of the Tigers and Lions, without kids, and brave Ford Field with them every year to watch Monster Jam.

Even on the days when motherhood has me down, I know that I’ve been blessed with a daughter who shares my love of reading and sense of humor, and two wild and loving sons who are always game for an adventure whether it’s an impromptu trip to the zoo or worm hunting in their own backyard.

I’m excited to share more of my motherhood journey with you, and hopefully learn a few things along the way!
