Meet Amanda: A Flint City Mom with a Passion for Community

Hello, I’m Amanda, a Flint City Mom, and a new contributor here at Mid-Michigan Moms Blog. I moved to Flint in 2016 from the metro-Detroit area after getting married.

I became intrigued by urban cities when I was in high school. One of my classes ventured down to Detroit for a photo walk and I was amazed by the sadness and yet the beauty of all the historic, urban decay and abandonment that surrounded me. I remember thinking how cool it would be to see Detroit become a safe and thriving city again.

Since moving to Flint, I’ve developed a passion for this city and its community. The resiliency and desire for revival is inspiring and the same thoughts I had about Detroit have driven me to want to contribute to creating change in Flint.  As a result, I feel a calling on my life to pursue starting a nonprofit organization to help meet this community’s needs. Innovation and entrepreneurship have always fascinated me and I’ve longed to be able to create something that can make the world a better place.

As I’m walking out that journey, I’m also working full time, and the wife of a handsome {soon-to-be} police officer, Jonathan. I’m the mom of a sweet, 17-month-old boy, Landon, as well as two fur babies, a Boxer named Gatsby and a Chihuahua named Isabel. My family holds my heart.

In my free time, I enjoying learning new skills, developing content for my personal blog, Good Morning, Lovely, and taking pictures of my adventures traveling around the city, state, country, or world. Although I am always up for a new adventure or a seasonal, Michigan festival on the weekends, I am as much of an adventurer as I am a home body. Family snuggles on the couch while binge watching a new TV show is on the top of my list. If you’re looking for a new show, you have to check out Orphan Black!  I’m one of the rare INFJ personalities, and an old soul chasing after a beautiful life.

Self-care and personal development are so important and I think they are even more important when you become a mom. The content I produce for Mid-Michigan Moms Blog will revolve a lot around how to take care of yourself as a mom as well as thoughts, tips, stories, and advice from my personal and unique take on motherhood. I look forward to being a part of this community and connecting with the readers and other contributors.

P.S. I live for therapeutic conversations. If you ever want to network or collaborate and talk about entrepreneurship, personal development, Flint, Jesus, motherhood, makeup, blogging – or just need to talk about life, hit your girl up and we can meet at one of my favorite coffee shops, Café Rhema, located in downtown Flint, which you should totally visit anyway, if you haven’t already! Who wouldn’t love an eclectic, 1920s themed coffee shop?
