Meet Kelsey, An East Lansing Mom!

Hey! I’m Kelsey, a stay-at-home mom of three pretty cool little people. Emersyn is six years old, Lincoln is four years old and London is two years old.  I always dreamed of being a mom, and here I am!

I was born and raised in Saginaw, MI. My husband and I met at Central Michigan {Fire Up Chips!}, where I earned my teaching degree. We lived in Royal Oak, MI for a few years after we got married.  I was a  kindergarten/young fives teacher for a few years and learned the struggles of being a working mom.

My husband and I moved to the Lansing area after the birth of our 2nd child and a job transfer for him. This is also when I began my stay-at-home mom journey. Moving to a new area knowing very little people was a learning curve, but I quickly met fellow stay-at-home mom friends and discovered how amazing the Lansing area is for families.

In order to fill my teaching void, I started working for a Chinese company online called VIPKID. It is basically a one-on-one tutoring service for children in China who want to learn English. I love the flexibility of the job. I also started writing a mom blog called, Doing Mom Things. With these two things and being a stay-at-home mom, I am surely busy, but love {just about} every second of it!

There are so many places that we love in the Lansing area!  It is hard to just share a few of our favorites:

My oldest, Emersyn has been dancing at Spartan Dance Center for the past three years and absolutely loves it.  This is her first year on the pre-company dance team.  up, I am now officially a dance mom. She will be headed to three competitions with two dances: a tap and jazz number. She will also perform in an annual recital weekend. She adores going to dance and performing on stage.  I love the relationships, dedication, and skills that she has developed through taking classes at Spartan Dance Center.

With being at the dance center often, we love that one of our favorite restaurants shares a parking lot.  Buddies Restaurant Bar is a perfect place to take our kids.  They offer free kids meals on Mondays and Tuesdays and have popcorn to keep the kids busy while you wait for your food.  They also offer adult beverages {bar, maybe obvious?}.  The quesadillas are huge and the best in town.

We are in love with being outdoors and are lucky enough to live in an area where there are many parks, amazing nature centers, and a zoo nearby.  One of our favorite outdoor spaces to visit is Potter Park Zoo. Walking through this zoo never gets old for my three kids. They especially love the indoor lion and tiger exhibit. Events at the zoo are something that we all look forward to each year. We love to go to see the zoo lights and Santa at Christmas time, its so magical. We also head to the zoo each year for the annual Boo at the Zoo in October for Halloween. Potter Park Zoo is small enough to do a morning trip without missing a thing. We love it.

IMPRESSION5 has been one of our favorite and most visited places since we moved to the area. This hands-on museum has something for all ages, which has worked well for us since our kids are all at different ages and stages.  We had Lincoln’s birthday party here, it was the best party to date! Lincoln especially enjoys when the train exhibit comes. He could run around looking at the trains go by forever.

My family and I are so lucky to live in such an amazing area with so much to offer for families. I am excited to share my experiences with you here on Mid-Michigan Mom’s Blog!
