Self-care is so important in our lives, but it’s hard to do when you have children. It’s so easy to put it off for another day and suddenly it’s months later. Very often, we hear mothers that never spend any money on themselves. Yet, we are pushed to take self-care days. When my son was small I wondered when and how I could do that.
My self-care solution has been subscription boxes.
These small, monthly surprises are often just the thing I need to remind myself to make time for ME.
There are so many options for subscriptions out there with a wide range of prices depending on your budget. This also means that there is something for everyone. One way that I relieve the issue of cost is by paying for a full one-year subscription, usually at tax time when I know I have extra money. Another great option is the monthly subscription or in some cases a seasonal subscription.
I currently have two subscriptions that I love.
The first is a makeup box from IPSY that comes once a month. By paying for a full year, I get my subscription for about $100 rather than the $144 it would cost if I paid for each month individually. When you set up your account you take a survey to tailor the box to your needs. The questions are easy things like hair color/type, eye color, experience, and preferred types of products. The nice thing is you can always change your survey answers. If I get tired of makeup, I can always change my preferences and have them send me haircare or skincare items.
One of the great benefits of this kind of subscription is that I can try products I normally wouldn’t try on my own. This can be good for a lot of reasons. I love that I can change my preferences on a whim. More than anything else, I love the excitement of getting new products to try. So far, my favorite products have been the face masks.
The second subscription box I have is seasonal from Fab Fit Fun. This one is a little more expensive at $200 per year or $50 per season. This box has been worth the extra money. For my Fall box, I received about 10 items including a yoga mat, a glass-etched water bottle, melon body scrub, and gold earrings. This subscription is a little different because depending on the level of your subscription you can choose some of the items you receive.
I was super surprised by the quality of the items that I received in this one. It was more than I expected. Some subscriptions give you mostly sample sizes of products, but not when you invest a bit more! It was nice to receive this seasonal box as a little bonus and I can’t wait to get the next one!
Have you ever considered trying a subscription box?
Give it a try and let me know! You may be surprised by the difference it can make.
