November is the most popular month of the year for people displaying how thankful they are for the things and people they have in their lives. Whether it’s because it’s the month of Thanksgiving and it’s “easy” to remember or seeing all the social media posts that pop up, it seems this is the month to show our gratitude.
Well, why not show our gratefulness all throughout the year? Here are some ways that I show my thankfulness all year long and you can, too:
*Random posts on social media. When something or someone that makes you smile pops into your mind, head over to your preferred social media platform and let the world know. Did your best friend help you through a bad day? Make a post thanking him/her for their listening ear. It’s something small but to people like me, whose love language is words of affirmation, it means the world.
*Make a phone call or send a text. When your Mom crosses your mind, give her a quick call or text. Something as simple as “Thanks for being a great Mom” goes such a long way.
*Send a card in the mail. I know my grandparents LOVE receiving cards in the mail. Before the internet and email were a thing, my Grandma & I would write letters to each other and send them in the mail. My Grandma loved doing that and since she doesn’t do the email thing, she still loves it. Sending her a note just to say “hello” puts a huge smile on her face.
*Give a small gift. If you’re like me, you hate shopping for yourself but love shopping for other people. Whenever I’m at a store and I see something that reminds me of someone, if I have the extra cash, I pick it up for them. I then either give it to them in person or send it in the mail along with a quick note that just says something like “Saw this & thought of you.” It doesn’t have to be anything huge, it can be as simple as their favorite candy bar or pack of gum. Just showing people that they were on your mind is all it takes sometimes.
*A simple “I love you.” I grew up in a family who said I love you every time we left each other, hung up the phone, etc. I instill this in my family now. My husband always makes fun of me because I could be arguing with him one minute but when we hang up or he leaves the house, regardless of if I’m still mad or not, I always say I love you. Saying I love you & I appreciate you is something so easy to do, to show that you are genuinely grateful for that person being a part of your life.
The five ideas above are so simple, yet can mean so much to the person on the receiving end. November shouldn’t be the only month of the year that we should our gratitude towards the people we love. Using these ideas, we can show it all year through. I for one am so incredibly grateful for everything and everyone that I have in my life, and I try my best to show it as much as possible. So, for whoever is reading this that is apart of my life, I want you to know how blessed and thankful I am to have you in my life. You have made me the person I am today and for that, I am truly so grateful.
