10 Ways to Refresh Your Home & Life

Michigan winters are long! But the ever-changing seasons bring great potential for a home and life refresh! Spring and summer offer the perfect time to open the windows, air everything out, and freshen things up. You’ll find that once you start refreshing your home it’ll freshen up your life as well.

Here are some ideas to get you started in giving your home and life a refresh:

  1. Declutter and Organize
First things first. You must declutter before you freshen things up. Check out this post by another Mid-Michigan Moms Blog contributor to Declutter Your Home by Getting Rid of These 50 Things. It’s garage sale season and there’s nothing better than decluttering and making some cash for all that hard work!

My motto: If you don’t love it, get rid of it so somebody else can!

  2. Add Fresh Flowers
There’s nothing like fresh flowers to brighten up a space. The kitchen table is my favorite spot for fresh flowers.
  3. Rearrange Furniture
A new arrangement can be refreshing for your eyes and family. Start by rearranging your living area. If you have rearranged your living area multiple times and find that you’ve finally found the perfect arrangement keep it as is. If that’s the case try moving around end tables, getting rid of the coffee table that seems to always get in the way at playtime, or simply declutter the space a bit.
  4. Buy Something New
One of my favorite things to do is to visit my favorite local shop or a thrift store and hunt for a home decor piece I love. It’s amazing how one new piece can freshen up any room.
  5. Add a Plant or Two
Not only will greenery brighten up a space, but it’s also great for the air quality in your home. Once you buy a plant for one room I bet you’ll want to buy another and before you know it you’ll be a crazy plant lady! If you have no luck with living plants buy artificial.
  6. Sweep Off the Front Porch
We have a little porch and I love sweeping it off, moving around the 2 or 3 items on it, and adding some planters and a hanging basket in the late Spring. Remember, your front porch is the first thing your guests see!
  7. Move Around Home Decor
Move around home decor items. Try to move items from room to room and add seasonal items too.
  8. Organize Something in Your Life
Even if you consider yourself super organized, I bet there’s something in your life that could use some organizing. Here’s a question to get you thinking. How are you doing in these areas? Meal planning, professional development, budgeting, goal setting, remembering important events, self-care, cleaning schedule. Pick one of those things and pay more attention to it. You could start a bi-weekly meal plan, talk to your spouse about a budget, or simply make more time for you because you deserve it mama!
  9. Deep Clean
Wash the windows, clean out the cupboards, and dust. If you dread the idea of “spring cleaning” think about hiring it out for a “one time housekeeping service.” If that doesn’t interest you take it room by room conquering one room each day for a week or two. Don’t forget to ask for help. Your kids might see the low areas you don’t!
  10. Paint a Wall
Paint is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to freshen up any room. Add an accent wall or paint the half bath. This can be a big or small project that can make a big difference in any space!

There you have it! 10 ways you can freshen things up in your home and in your life. We’d love to hear your ideas on how you freshen things up this time of year!
