Meet Angela, A Grand Blanc Mom

Hi Everyone! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be joining this skilled and savvy team of moms. I am certain we will learn a lot as we navigate through motherhood together. I have lived in Genesee County, Grand Blanc specifically, for about five years now. We have found that it is a wonderful area for our family to flourish.

After growing up in Saginaw, I went to the best little college in the universe, Albion College. There, I played soccer, made a lot of mistakes (most of them were fun), grew as a human, and met some of the best friends of my life. One of which, just so happens to be my husband of over eight years. We lived in the Grand Rapids area for a few years while I taught high school English and earned my first masters from Grand Valley State University. We then ventured back to the east side of the state because we just knew we’d need a lot of help from our family once the babies started rolling in. Thank God for family! I then worked at Great Lakes Bay Early College for three years before becoming a SAHM.

After my son was born in 2012, I continued to teach full-time. In 2014, after learning of a sickness in the family, I resigned from my job to help and become a SAHM to my newborn and two year old. In January, I will be going to back to school (yet again) to earn a masters degree in English from UofM Flint. I love writing, working out, cooking, socializing with friends and family, and have recently taken up running. It has been quite the whirlwind, but there are many activities to do in our area to keep little hands busy and for moms to have some guilt-free time away. We all need our sanity, ladies!

FOR MOMS…

Genesys Athletic Center
I try to drag myself (and my kids) to GAC located in Grand Blanc a few times a week. They have tons of classes from yoga to bootcamp. Do not feel intimidated; instructors cater to your present fitness level and gym members are always helpful and welcoming. I have yet to feel judged. Some other perks include a sauna, pool, indoor track, massage, and a beautiful walking trail. Plus, they have a daycare right there. No brainer. No excuses.

Favorite Date Night/ Girls Night Spots
Although not technically in Genesee County, the Holly Hotel is a unique little spot. My husband and I go there for our Christmas date in lieu of giving each other gifts. It is fine dining, but a real treat once a year. There is also a comedy club upstairs which is perfect for any crowd. Some of our other favorites include The Fenton Firehall, Redwood Lodge, and Brickstreet Bar and Gri

FOR KIDS AND FAMILY…

Spicer Orchards
I am a sucker for apple orchards and Spicer’s in Fenton is my all-time favorite. It screams everything fall. There are hayrides,a hay maze, animal farm, bounce houses, food and gift vendors on the weekends, winery, brewery, and THE BEST CINNAMON SUGAR DOUGNUTS. They are served warm and with cider. You will not be disappointed.

Crossroads Village
Oh, there is something so magical about this place. We probably go three times a year and every single time I leave, I have the most indescribable feeling take over me. You walk away knowing that a memory was just made. Around Halloween, the kids can trick-or-treat and the kids love it. Plus, you get another use out of those costumes. Then, there’s the magic of the holiday season. Nothing. I repeat nothing will put you in the holiday spirit more than Croassroads Village. The train, the boat, the carousel, the old nostalgic feel. Everything about it will make you want to go back over and over again.

For-Mar Nature Preserve

If your little ones like the outdoors as much as mine do, they will love everything about For-Mar. They have several different programs for children like Hike it Baby, a preschool program, and numerous others. I also just learned they even do birthday parties. How cool is that? For-Mar is a beautiful, serene area that I encourage you to escape to.

Again, I am thrilled to be a part of such a vibrant group of women and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.  As a group of honest moms, hopefully we can all lift each other up in this tough, yet joyful business called motherhood.

Hi Everyone! I’m Angela and am honored to be joining this incredible group of Mid-Michigan Moms. While I'm usually a mom who wears several hats (writer, writing instructor, and volunteer), I'm currently homeschooling my two small kids. Together, we love adventuring into nature and reading All OF THE BOOKS.
