Hello! I’m Katie Augustine, and I am a stay-at-home mom in the village of Chesaning. I live here with my laundry-doing husband Matthew, who is the upper grades instructor and principal at a private school in town called Zion Lutheran, and our two children – Elsie, age 2, and Oliver, 7 months!
Fun fact: I had due dates almost exactly two years apart {September 1/August 31} but both kids were ridiculously overdue and decided to be born nearly two weeks late…did I mention that my husband is a teacher? Did I mention that BOTH of those birthdays are during the first week of school? Did I mention that I got to be pregnant all summer long with no air conditioning – twice? You can make all the plans you want to, but God is in control!

Here are some more fun facts about me:
- Ma Ingalls in my mom inspiration:I spent my whole childhood with my nose in a book, and some of my favorites were the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I re-read them a few months ago for the first time after having kids, and was blown away by Ma Ingalls. That woman could do it all – bake, cook, teach her children to read, sew, fight fires, help build houses, move all over the country, and always come across calm and classy. As someone who loves working in the kitchen and aspires to be a “crunchy” mom, Ma – I want to be the 21st century version of you, minus the bonnets and covered wagon! {Though I do rock a Grand Caravan these days… #vanmom}.
- I’ve spent my whole life driving around or near Lake Michigan: I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, until studying education in college in New Ulm, Minnesota. I met my husband there, we were married in 2013, and settled here in Chesaning. It’s great being a Michigander – we love this side of the lake! With relatives in Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, every time we go back to visit our families we end up circumnavigating Lake Michigan. The past few summers we’ve enjoyed exploring different areas of Michigan through camping – the sand dunes near Silver Lake are our favorite!
- Mornings with Mommy: This year, I started a program called “Mornings with Mommy” through our church, in which parents and their children attend an educational play date together. It has been a great way to get to know other moms in the area, use my teaching degree, and let our children play and learn with other kids! They have locations all across the country – check them out, or come have some coffee and play with us at our next session in Chesaning!
- I’m reading through the whole Bible this year: My faith in Christ is at the center of all I do. Even though it’s hard to find uninterrupted time as the mom of two little ones, taking time to read God’s Word and grow spiritually is essential. I am attempting to read through the whole Bible this year! Motherhood is tough – I am thankful that God loves us, saves us, gives us patience, and is always there to hear our prayers!
I am so grateful to be a part of the Mid Michigan Mom’s blog, and I cannot wait to get to know all of you better. God’s blessings on your journey through crazy, exhausting, beautiful motherhood!
