Our nation’s pandemic is calling for social distancing, leaving many of us at home with our own families. But what about those who are isolated by themselves?
Many seniors in our community who reside in assisted living homes are having no human interaction other than with those who work and reside with them. These are the people who need visits from children, friends, neighbors, relatives, and community groups – those who are in these homes because their families are unable to care for them, have moved out of town, their spouses have passed away or for other circumstances that we are not privy to.
This type of social isolation is in place to keep their physical selves safe, but what about their emotional well-being? We talked with one of our local #MidMichiganMoms, Amanda Mills. Amanda has helped to manager Bentley Manor, a family business that has been in the area for over 30 years. Bentley Manor is a collection of 18 assisted living facilities located throughout Mid-Michigan.
Amanda shared that a little bit of sunshine goes a very long way in brightening the days of her residents, especially in a time like this where they are socially distanced to the extreme.
Now is your chance to be a Senior’s Sunshine!
That’s right round up those art projects, get out that paper and pencil, record a video of you or your child’s talents and let’s send A LOT of love their way!
Here’s What THEY Need From YOU:
- Get to work! Draw or paint a picture, write an inspiring letter, record a video of a dance routine, a piano recital – whatever makes YOU happy. Think fun, entertaining, happy, and uplifting!
- Take a photo of your art projects, your letters, or save your videos and email them to Bentley Manor using the email address bentleymanorafc@gmail.com. Be sure to include ‘Senior Sunshine’ in the subject of your email to they can sort and disseminate emails appropriately to their residents.
