Igloo, Outdoor, and Shanty Dining In + Around Mid-Michigan

There’s something magical about winter in Michigan — twinkling lights, cozy evenings, and those extra-special moments shared over a warm meal. One of the most memorable ways to enjoy the season is by dining in a glowing igloo, a festive shanty, or a beautifully heated outdoor space.

All across Mid-Michigan, restaurants have embraced the spirit of the season with enchanting outdoor dining setups that feel straight out of a Christmas movie. Whether you’re planning a holiday date night, making memories with the kids, or meeting friends for a winter treat, these whimsical dining options create a little sparkle you won’t soon forget.

And if you’re looking for a true don’t-miss experience, the White Horse Inn in Metamora is a family-favorite tradition. Their themed igloos – each one decorated with its own holiday charm – make you feel like you’ve stepped into your own private snow globe.

Before You Go

To make your winter dining experience extra magical:

  • Call ahead to ask about igloo or shanty reservations (odds are they are by reservation only… and they fill up fast!).
  • Check each restaurant’s social media for updated hours and availability.
  • Dress in layers or bring a blanket – staying cozy is part of the charm!

Hey! I'm Lyndsey one of the co-owners of Mid-Michigan Moms. I was born and raised in Omaha, NE and in my life before becoming a work/homeschool/stay-at-home mom was a critical care nurse and nurse educator. After unforgettable adventures in California and Texas, our family moved to my husband’s home state of Michigan. My husband, three kids, and a naughty yellow lab are now loving our chaotic, rural living-life. I love traveling, balancing no less than 12 DIY projects at once, chocolate, cooking, daiquiris, and a sunny day in the 70s at the lake.
